Daily Links - Final Thoughts On SU's Win

SU-Vermont Recap |
It wasn't quite sweet revenge as that day in Worcester, Massachusetts in March of 2005 will always occupy a dark spot in the memory of Syracuse basketball fans, but Wes Johnson, Scoop Jardine, Kris Joseph, and company did what they needed to do to help us all move past the memories of Taylor Coppenrath, T.J. Sorrentine, and Tom Brennan with a 79-56 win over the Catamounts in first round action of the NCAA Tournament in Buffalo, NY.

Scoop Jardine's playground move leaves Vermont defender standing still | syracuse.com
With 6:32 left in the first half, Jardine faked Vermont’s Nick Vier out of his Nikes with a crossover move. Before Jardine could comment on the play, Johnson interjected "Playground."

Gonzaga’s 7-foot sophomore center, who hails from North Vancouver, British Columbia, is a product of the Canadian national basketball system. He played last summer on a team that also featured Vermont’s Maurice Joseph. Kris Joseph remembers playing with Sacre on a junior national team.

With Vermont dispatched and the Zags up next, SU's NCAA Tourney road gets bumpier |
On a blue-skied morning hard by Lake Erie that made even the vacant storefronts scattered across downtown seem somehow less forsaken, there was a buzz on this city’s freshly-swept sidewalks. And a large part of that was generated by folks dressed (or wigged) in orange.

Dashonte Riley gets past early jitters | syracuse.com

Brandon Triche snaps out of funk with solid effort |
In those minutes following Syracuse University’s 79-56 opening-round conquest of Vermont in the NCAA Tournament on Friday night — and after Triche had scored 10 points and collected a couple of assists in 23 solid minutes — he heaved a sigh of relief. "Better," Triche said with the faintest of smiles, "than nothing."
