No. 1 Syracuse Orange (27-2) vs. St. John's Red Storm (15-13) GameThread
St. John's Red Storm at Syracuse Orange, Mar 2, 2010 7:00 PM EST

I think that image speaks for itself. Arinze and Andy (and Wes) play their first game as the No. 1 team in the nation and their final one in the Carrier Dome. Bittersweet doesn't even begin to describe it.
Hopefully the No. 1 team in the land takes care of business against St. John's and doesn't give anyone good reason to doubt them any further.
Special note: FingerLakes1.com will be doing a live remote if you want to look in on the action.
Leave your pre-, in- and post-game comments below. G'Orange!

LETS GO ORANGE!
Please, let this not be a let down / trap game… I dont think it will be, after all, its senior night, but u just never know…
I hope we do to every team what Naomi Campbell does to her personnel
What does Syracuse do...SHUT IT DOWN. Nuff said.

ARINZE DESTROY!
And let’s hope that the Orange do the same thing to the Johnnies.
"(BARF)" - Donovan McNabb, during his game winning drive against Virginia Tech in 1998
His freshman year
I was in the pep band, and anytime he did anything monstrous, my section would yell, “ONUAKU SMASH!” Fair warning, I might break this out tonight if he does anything monstrous.
Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.
Don't wanna get overconfident in this one
st. john’s isn’t as bad as their record and we all remember depaul.
Sending my props to masn
for airing this game in DC so I don’t have to watch online.
Ooo yea that's hot.
I only noticed that recently
and also discovered they’ll air the games the morning after around 9 am.
Ooo yea that's hot.
I can't recall what I should take for a sprained (hopefully not broken) toe
I know it’s either ibuprofen or beer. I’m going with beer.
Syracuse players have a lot of length.

Can't watch the game!!!
I’m in Buffalo (for school) and the game is not on here. I tried to turn it on on ESPN 360 but it says it’s blacked out regionally. I just checked my local TV listings and it’s not on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU! How come I can’t see my Cuse? I know the Louisville game will be on on Saturday but this one isn’t.
This sucks.
SNY is carried in Buffalo… dont’ have it?

I'm on campus
On UB. Campus lineup doesn’t include SNY (or YES). I blame them. But I found the justin.tv link.
Thanks.!

Dome looks good
But, as always…just wear orange, people
ok, i cant do this thread and twitter and still watch game.
gonna focus on the tweeting, So if you tweet… follow me @BriHoffman
was thinking the same thing
he needed one more dribble to get there
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
St. Johns should just field a team of the sons of early 90's Knicks
And throw in DJ Strawberry for good measure
Rebounding
has been quite good so far. Keep it up guys.
Alright Brain, you don't like me and I don't like you. But lets just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer.
Does the Dome PA
call him Ricky Jackson? That’s gotta get annoying
dont say that...
my wife is semi-in love with him
well, the espn360 feed is now sufficiently behind...
so that i can see everything on here that happens before it does. Later guys.
Apparently
no fouls are going to be called. I mean seriously..should have been an and 1
ANDY RAUTINS SHOULD GET THAT CALL!
Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician - The Syracuse blog that cares.
3 headed monster in the back court next year
scoop, brandon, and dion waiters
burr = a goldfish
apparently he forgot that a st johns player deflected the pass about 3 seconds earlier
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
i know how the kid feels
i just hurt my foot playing basketball this morning
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
according to some folks sitting courtside
burr said “let me tell you something. you are trying my patience right now” after that over and back to boeheim yelling at him.
Triche
At some point he has to realize what’s a charge. Anytime he goes in there it’s a charge. Maddening
it certainly appears
that we’ve seen him peak this year. He’s still very productive in spurts, but at this point, this late in his freshman year (when he’s certainly getting tired), i think we’ve seen what he can/can’t do
Haha that last charge that AO drew was pretty weak.
He just kind of bailed out.
Is it just me
Or does St John have “hyper elite” unis, too? Look at their backs.
Yes
he anticipated that. More Big East officiating where you have no clue what’s a foul. Some team is going to get screwed at the BET. Let’s hope it’s not Syracuse. Two refs have already been suspended for it.
those the 2 refs from the Louisville game? if so, they deserve it

zone is really compact tonight
smart. they can’t shoot worth shit.
in other scores
Cinci tied w/ Nova at the half.
Florida down 3 to Vandy at the half.
Minnesota down 14 @ Michigan at the half.
UTEP losing by 6 @ Marshall at the half.
DePaul up 3 early on USF.
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
in other news
espn360 is showing the all access geno piece for the 50th straight game i’ve watched on here
What bullshit
I want to find out who the number 1 team in the country is.
Also, I heard Andy Rautin’s uncle or something used to play for Syracuse.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this zone tutorial
or as I like to call it, “jim boeheim’s fireside chats”
Ooo yea that's hot.
ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball
ball ball ball ball ball ball ball ball
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
and rick puts one back!
….for the red storm.
D’oh!
"I Don't Care if your Family Sells Gasoline, Catch the goddamn ball'
triche is really struggleing recently
he has averaged has 27 points per game in the last 7 games and 13 turnovers.
I know we don’t need him to score but he is dribbling way too much
That was
some pretty awesome 4 on 5 defense. impressive.
One last crumple to the ground in pain by Andy
He had to break it out on Senior night
Wes
He’s become a strict jumpshooter and rebounder. pretty noticeable.
Think he looks like that more than is the case
He’s not pushing things because he doesn’t need to. Why go for the forced penetration when he can lay off a nice pass to a teammate. He has fallen a little farther than I’d have hoped.
Hey guys
According to the ESPN box score, our field goal and 3-point percentage are exactly the same.
Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.
that was a goaltend
shockingly Jim Burr missed it.
there is nothing we can accomplish this year
where that won’t show up in the season retrospective. If we never lose again, its the anomaly, if we lose out, its the early warning sign
An early warning sign?
That we were going to start the season 27-2, attain the #1 ranking and THEN succumb to the humiliation of losing to LeMoyne? I think we’re sufficiently far from that game that it’s just a humorous footnote now.

I actually like these announcers tonight.
They’re hitting the SU Announcer Bingo stuff pretty heavy. And they keep referring to Scoop as a smart player, which I don’t think is the case 100% of the time (as much as I love him).
But they actually seem to know the team and the conference really well. And they are focusing on the game they are announcing, rather than everything else but the game.
I thought it was pretty astute to point out that we might learn something about the lineup when RickJack and Rautins were out for a few plays.
Added bonus: neither is Dickie V.
They asked if Desko learned the zone defense from Boeheim.
Leave Desko’s lax tutilage to the Simmonses.
Wes
playing up the crowd on that last foul
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
ARINZE DESTROY!!!!!
I love seeing that man score buckets!
i don't think these announcers
have ever seen Rautins play
SNY Announcers ...
….have done a great job all year, although I give my nod to Brooke Weisbrod who did a game in the Dome earlier this year.
And I don’t think she did a game for us since :(

Brooke ...Facebook ....
Brooke Weisbrod: Alllrighty, last men’s game of the season, USF @ Depaul, 7:30est ESPNU. Dominique Jones from USF is my pick for the next unkown NBA SuperStar. He is that good and against the Big East too!

Brooke Loves Cuse and we Love Her!
Brooke Weisbrod: February 1 at 10:39pm: That you tube video with Wes Johnson is funny….I wish it was up to me when I could do another Syracuse game, but doesn’t look like it will be this season. I think they are Final Four material for sure.
looked like he was thinking of it
hey, if Roberts can do it…
I've
never been more surprised and excited by a buzzer beater before or after
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Holy shit, my first comment in, like, months!
But I just want to say to everybody: (1) GO MUTHAF@@$#%@#$ING CUSE BABY!
And boy, oh boy – do I ever LOATHE that F*ing Lexus commercial. Listening to it makes me feel like I’m watching a drum circle with a hippy trustafarian slapping away at a guitar. I want that commercial to die. Seriously.
I got shivers when he raised his giant arm to the crowd.
And I might have teared up a bit. Or it’s just dusty in our house.
i hope Boeheim lets Wes have an ovation too

could things be any better?
- team in the nation, taking care of business against St. Johns, locking up #1 in the Big East. i love cuse
First outright Big East title since 1991
Has it really been that long? Wow.
new poll up on espn.com
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPollResultsState?sportIndex=frontpage&pollId=87038
who PoY should be. Wes coming in 3rd for the people’s choice
Anyone catch AO's parents for senior night?
just wondering if they’re human or some mixture of power tools and over-sized furniture.

Wow. Post game guys mention Manley and JTDB, comparing Freedom Hall and the L’ville game. Wish the BE had a real network 24/7. It would just be great. Old games, history lessons for every team. And guys like this who understand the BE and all the teams.
Was thinking
about that tonight how it’ll probably be one of the VERY FEW times we’d like to emulate something John Thompson did.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Man, I underestimated the AO SMASH factor tonight
Again, close to the shirt, but not close enough.
Go Orange(men)!
Perfect
showing tonight. St Johns didn’t get within 10 from 8 minutes of the 1st half. They did what number 1 teams do. No reason for it to be close and it wasn’t. If Onuaku plays like that in the tourney this team is going to be very very difficult to stop. He was possessed.
seems
we’re finally getting our offensive mojo back too, just at the right time
85-95-99 in our last 3 games
Wes injury
might have forced Jax and Arinze to step up and take up the slack that his minor injury left in the lineup. Also, Andy has broken out of a mid January slump to be just ridiculously good lately, which means he’s hitting more shots and passing the ball like he did early on.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Andy did make a few stupid passes during this game
But they were certainly heavily outweight by smart, impressive passes. Just wish we could lower that number of stupid passes to zero!
aggressiveness
rick kept saying in an interview i watched that JB just told him to be aggressive. i honestly think that’s all arinze and rick need to do to control the game. i’m loving watching them this year because they get the ball and go straight to the hoop, as opposed to last year when both of them would all too often catch the ball, gather himself, maybe dribble, then go up and get blocked because the defense adjusted. they both definitely polished their footwork and moves in the offseason, but i think the biggest change is the decision to go for it.
BK: This guy is on fire, he is really smokin'.
KenKo: Oh yeah, Bill? What's he smokin'?
that was the first game in a while
that my heart didnt end up hurting during any point
