Arinze Onuaku's Smile (Or Lackthereof): A Retrospective
Arinze Onuaku as part of his SU Basketball exit interview:
What are the chances that a future employer will be able to pronounce your name? Probably little. Unless they’re a Syracuse fan. Then they’ll know exactly how to pronounce it.
Note to Syracuse fans in a position to hire AO. Do it. Save him the hassle of yet another fool mispronouncing his name. Cause as we all know, if that happens again, Onuaku will not be happy. And when AO is unhappy, you can tell by the look on his face.
And when he is happy, you can tell by...well...you usually can't.
If there's any one constant over the years for Arinze, other than his questionable free-throw shooting, it was his inability to form a smile during photos. More than his 1,000 points or his field goal percentages, it was his unwavering dedication to looking somber in any situation that we'll cherish most. Let's take a look back, shall we?

Almost!

Of course, we eventually broke the big man down to reveal the glowing chicklets within...

We'll miss you, ya big lug.

i'll miss him more than andy
so, so, so very under-rated. probably pound for pound the top 3-4 most powerful guys in d1 bball. also a 3.0 gpa with a degree. not that communications/ rhetorical studies stuff that most of the athletes do. what is “rhetorical studies” anyway?
loved it when he got all fired up [rare, maybe twice a season?].
miss you, big guy :-(
Its a shame he got hurt and used his 5th year. Otherwise this guy has 1 season on the OLine for HCDM and a solid NFL career after that if he wanted it.
Him and RickJack have really become a force this season.
I think the two of them are sort of what I was hoping Terrence Roberts and Watkins would be together, but never were. Slowly over this season we’ve seen that for this team to really shine, the two of them need to be pushing people around down low on both ends of the court.
I don’t think I realized until now how much I’ll miss AO.
he and slick rick
are the reason we lead the nation in FG%. that and good shot selection, but let’s be honest: many times the best shot selection is letting one of our beastly forwards get the ball in the low post.
