listening to the CBS on demand crew

I had no idea that Steve Lappas does the voice of Mort on Family Guy.

Also, WTF Nova?

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

Reynolds feels bad

that the Colonials aren’t getting the same kind of press that Vermont is getting this year. So they’re going to lose to a 15.

Seriously

Nova doing some serious damage to the Big East rep right now

Still reelin'

from the Seton Hall debacle in the NIT.

(not serious)

(although 2-3 in the NIT is not great)

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

tough to put much stock in NIT records

some teams definitely mail it in in that tourney

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Hence the (not serious)

Would like to think USF could beat NC St. though. Not like USF has this long history of hoops success. Thought St. Johns acquitted themselves well last night though, even in a loss.

you have to be on the ball with their on demand window

if you let the commercials start, you’re locked into the commercial. but if you’re quick on the trigger, you can switch over to a different game before the commercials start.

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 1:26 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

Turnovers are just brutal in some of these games… passes to nowhere.

This is an area we need to be careful in moving forward.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 1:31 PM EDT reply actions

I was listening to the radio

at lunch and some guy(coach) said ND was his big sleeper, picked ’em to make the final four.

ODU, however, is shutting it down.

by Fly Rodder on Mar 18, 2010 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

I don't see a single team playing now that we would have trouble with

in fact, we’re 4-0 against the teams currently in action.

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

Nova is shooting 30% from the field

bad time to have an off-day …

It is a day game … hopefully Syracuse plays Sunday evening in primetime.

by Fly Rodder on Mar 18, 2010 2:13 PM EDT reply actions

On Sunday, the latest start time is 5pm.

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

If I had to guess, it would be a 3pm start, Spokane will get the 5pm ET start, and we will get the 2nd game in Buffalo since we play in the 2nd session tomorrow. However we may get pushed to 5pm if we play Gonzaga since they are a west coast school.

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Spokane = Games played in Spokane, not Gonzaga, located in/near Spokane.

ND loses

Gody had a terrible game

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 2:21 PM EDT reply actions

The Big East is having a tough start to the Tourney.

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 2:24 PM EDT reply actions

Reynolds is shooting 8% from the field on 12 shots

How late were he and Fisher out boozing it up last night?

by Fly Rodder on Mar 18, 2010 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

Getting a bit disconcerting

ND was overseeded as a 6 and still lost. Nova is overseeded as a 2 and losing.

It’s not like these guys were unfairly put up against good teams. Quite the opposite.

Is the Big East a mirage?

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 2:27 PM EDT reply actions

Nova getting all the calls too

Notice Robert Morris in the2-3 zone?

It’s a trend!

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 2:39 PM EDT reply actions

I'm actually really nervous for Villanova

While I’d love to hold this loss over their heads, this would be really embarrassing for the Big East. (And it would suck for Cuse since another 2 losing to a 15 would cause people to mention the other few occurrences…)

COME ON, NOVA!!

by voteprime on Mar 18, 2010 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

Florida wasting huge opportunity to oust BYU

If we survive Buffalo, not sure I would want to play BYU in Utah.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

BE POY candidates sucking today

Gody & Reynolds are shooting around 10% from the field today (if that).
does not bode well for Wes tomorrow.

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 3:02 PM EDT reply actions

I find ’Nova to be the least objectionable non-Syracuse major basketball power Big East team… but holy crap, was that horrific officiating at the end there. RMU was screwed, big-time.

by wildcatlh on Mar 18, 2010 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Why aren't referees held to a higher standard?

Sure, it is a judgment call. But if Scoop commits a turnover, nobody at ESPN hesitates to question his decision-making. And so on.

19 year old kids are fair game but fat old (and mostly white) men are not? All they have to do is run the court and watch the game. AND THEY GET PAID TO DO IT.

If the money is not good… quit. If the travel is too much… quit. If you are too old or too fat… quit. Other than Chris Chelios and Nolan Ryan, most people can’t perform the major sports after 45.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

These are all good questions.

The leagues do seem to protect their refs from criticism. And hardly ever do refs get called out by name (except for major gaffes like have happened a few times in the NFL).

I think the age point is fair. I love my grandfather, and he’s surprisingly spry for his age, but I can’t imagine him on the court making quick calls, or even staying focused for the full length of the game.

I don’t watch a lot of NBA so I can’t really picture too many refs specifically, but they’re mostly in shape, right? Why are there so many fat, old and out of shape refs in the NCAAs?

by voteprime on Mar 18, 2010 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

hello? cbs?

i really don’t think anyone in rochester wants to watch the KSU crapfest when there are 2 close games in the 2nd half on

What is going on with these high seeds?

Were some of the 2s and 3s overrated, or the 15s and 14s underrated? Kansas St. seems to be the only team going out there and doing what it’s supposed to do (i.e. whoop up on some innocent kids).

by voteprime on Mar 18, 2010 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

Murray State, too, at 13 might just pull off that upset.

Some years it’s chalk and some years there are tons of upsets.

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow all the favorites win. Damn these NCAAs and their craziness!

by voteprime on Mar 18, 2010 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Murray St.

Erratic drive to nowhere. Ugh.

Some of these good teams you really have to catch on Day 1.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

I guess they drew up the 25-foot shot

don’t they know that only Syracuse’s opponents can hit that shot?

CBS MMOD is terrible

Lost the end of Villanova game in regulation completely.

Just went to Baylor game and the video was one minute behind the audio.

WTF?

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 4:46 PM EDT reply actions

im having no problems with MMOD

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I couldn't see the end of Nova-RMU regulation either

but everything else I’ve seen has worked fine. Most of the time just a few seconds behind live, and perfectly synchronized with the running clocks on the mini scoreboard at the top of the tv screen.

Took the laptop into the laundry room to watch the end of the Vandy game while transferring stuff from washer to dryer. My life is hard.

Calling the Murray St upset

almost rescues my bracket from the abortion that is Notre Dame basketball. Every year that team pulls me in to having them in the Sweet Sixteen, every year they piss on my brackets. Take your corn- fed mongoloids to the Big Ten now, please and thank you.

Yeah, I was very close to clicking on Murray State, but something made me change my mind.

Damn whatever that was.

And for some reason I had ND in the Elite 8. I didn’t like it, but that region just seems so weak that I could see it happening. Obviously I was wrong on that.

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 5:04 PM EDT reply actions

According to Sirius Satellite Radio....

which airs the Westwood One coverage of all NCAA Tourney games, these are the game times for Sunday:

12:00, 12:00
2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:40
4:35, 4:45, 5:00

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 5:10 PM EDT reply actions

Although that appears to be an extra game time, so I don’t know which one isn’t correct.

by nymetsfan1226 on Mar 18, 2010 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Now I'm really doubting the committee

Now that we have to watch matchups like Saint Marys – Richmond, UTEP – Butler and N. Iowa – UNLV (later), it just hit me. WTF were they thinking with these games? Why would you pair 2 mid-majors against each other in the first round? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the upsets and a few mid-majors make a run (except vs SU of course), but don’t schedule it so one of the little guys automatically gets there. Thats just boring.

And games like Cal – Louisville, Texas – WFU and Washington – Marq. will be interesting, but I’d rather see any one of those teams have to beat a decent mid-major in the first round than the 2nd.

also Temple-Cornell

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 18, 2010 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions

There is THAT

plus… the fact that I never pick Syracuse to win more than one game… but who else in the West is worthy of the final four? Sure, there are 15 teams that can beat us. But does any single one of them inspire you to watch the final four? If Kansas plays Kansas St…. who will care? If Kansas plays Pitt… snooze. And so on. Granted, there is the Xavier, BYU, Butler, Gonzaga factor. But why not spread those teams out a bit?

The South is no better. Nova? Baylor? A&M? Purdue? All flawed teams.

I keep hearing that Kentucky’s bracket is tough… but WVU is it. New Mexico may or may not be good. Wisconsin is toughest at home. Temple?

And then the Midwest has 5 teams that would not shock me if they reached the final four. And a Tennessee team that can beat anybody or lose to anybody.

Just terrible bracketing all around.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Also

am I alone in thinking that is BS that whomever wins vs Gonzaga-FSU will get to kick back and watch SU-Vermont? Would make more sense to me that the 1 seed should get to watch their upcoming opponent battle it out. Not to mention the extremely late tip-off for the game, which probably wont end until after midnight.

by bloodyyank44 on Mar 18, 2010 5:30 PM EDT reply actions

Tough call

In the old days, we would be playing this game in San Jose… which would be 9:30 pm there… or midnight here.

At least it is not noon. Syracuse cannot win afternoon games for some reason.

Football… basketball… its our achilles heel.

by ezcuse on Mar 18, 2010 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

agree

But SU could also be playing BYU in SLC. So, the committee can create that scenario but you can’t have SU playing in the Dome for the sweet 16. Brilliant work, guys.

To be fair

We did get to play in Albany as a 3-seed in ’03…

The way the Big East looks

I’d be more worried about Vermont right now. The Big East looks like a complete mirage.
