Where We Watching Syracuse vs. Vermont?
I know where I'm going to be. I'm heading over to The Parlor in Santa Monica (I'm actively looking to break my personal losing streak there). I know a lot of SU folks are heading to Hollywood but I'm feeling a little West Side/Sayid. If you're in the area, come join me (and let me know if you're going so I know to wear something dapper).
I know a lot of SU folks around the country will be heading out for the game Friday and for every subsequent SU game that follows. Below is a list of all the local spots that SU alumni groups and regular-old fans gather to watch the Orange.
If the place in your area is missing, please let me know and I'll add it. And if you have any thoughts, deals and info about the places listed, share it as well.

Jacksonville, FL?
We have an alumni club, but dunno if anything’s going down for the game tomorrow night.
I just have 2 things to say. Sean, please go to Sharkeez, you and we have had great luck by you watching Cuse games there.
Also, I don’t believe that Seneca Falls exists as a town anymore. They just voted to dissolve their govt. So should we call it Haasville?
its just the village gov't thats dissolving
instead, it will all be the town of seneca falls. stupid ny local governmental structure.
Houston:
NOLACuse’s girlfriend’s house.
New Orleans (all games after Friday’s): NOLACuse’s house or Finn McCool’s
Manhattan
I’m planning to go to The Blarney Rock for the first time. I was going to go for the Big East tournament, but, well, that didn’t happen.
Weird coincidence that the place in Santa Fe has the same name as Vermont’s mascot.
Is the Blarney Rock cheap being that close to penn/MSG?
I tried The Hill for the ‘Nova game and we had to leave before the game even started, they had half the bar reserved and we literally couldn’t move it was so crowded (plus it was expensive as hell). And East End is just so freaking far uptown.

Would love to hear a review of Blarney Rock from anyone who has watched tourney or Cuse games there...
Is this that tiny bar that flies the Cuse flag all the time near MSG?

You see....
That’s why I direct all of my alcohol-related Syracuse questions to my main hobo, Hobocuse.

There was a great place across the street for it called Bar 29 that we went to, but it was $5 for freaking bottles

was at Blarney Rock last week
after going to the BET, there were plenty of Cuse faithful that congregated there, even after we lost that day. It’s a dive bar, but it seemed like a decent place with an older crowd and it wasn’t horrifically crowded. I was able to sneak to the back and get a table. I only had one beer there since i was drinking all day, and I forgot how much it cost. The price for pub grub didn’t seem too bad considering the location.
I will be at Gamekeepers back home on friday night though.

Cuse in Manhattan
A couple of points
Blarney Rock (and other bars around MSG, stout for ex) are FANtastic during the BET, others times during the year not so much. It will be fairly empty or filled with weird people. But yes it does hang a SU banner and Yes it has cheap beers, 5 bucks a pop.
The Hill Blows, wicked packed with fresh out of college Frat boys
The East End is a good spot. a lways have an all you can drink special during Cuse games, usually 20 bucks. Gets crowded, but nothing like the Hill
My personal favorite is Prof Thoms (14th st and 2nd Ave) Fills with a good Cuse crowd, never over crowded. good beer selection and great food. However it also doubles as a New England bar, so I refuse to go there for the Vermont game

Good to know
We’ll keep it off the list for the aforementioned reason but add it for non-Vermont viewings

Charlotte, NC
Dilworth Neighborhood Grille http://www.neighborhoodgrille.com/
Charlotte Alumni Club will be there and the owners are from Binghamton and are Cuse fans so it will be a good spot. They said they had about 100 for the Nova game.
Great thanks

Hoboken, NJ
I happened to be in The Mile Square for the Villanova game and it was PACKED with Cuse fans. I’m not sure if that’s a regular thing or if it was something special.
considering it was a 9pm Sat. night game I'm not suprised it was packed
but heavy on Cuse fans (or anyone actually paying attention) is interesting. I haven’t been there since they remodeled the place but heard it’s a bit better than it was. Good beer selection too.
by sportzbelle on Mar 18, 2010 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions
Yes, the fact that it was packed with Cuse fans is what surprised me, not that it was crowded. The whole back section with the big TVs was filled with orange.
It’s not a terrible place. We ended up there because other bars were too crowded. Good drinks and they handed out free desserts after Cuse won.
Great bar
As long as Cuse fans arent congregating as Whiskey Bar, that’s a win

shudder....
I’ve been there once, exactly once and that was enough for my entire life.

I think that actually goes for most of Hobo,
or really Jersey for that matter! (:

That was me and my cuse squad at M-Square for nova…its not a cuse bar per se but it is when we go (they had soccer on every TV till we asked) lemme know if anyones plannin to go there this w/e i’ll bring the crew.
can also do the “miracle mile” 4 oz. of every beer on tap (35 or 40) for $30 bucks
sounds like you have quite a crew!
where you guys planning on going out any place in particular in Hobo or were you not really planning anything?
OH GOD NO....
You and the bachelorettes
Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician - The Syracuse blog that cares.
eh, they have trimmed their beer menu back over the last year or so
disappointing, but they still have the widest selection in hoboken other than maybe helmer’s.
nyc and hoboken are full of cuse fans. i think we’d be in the majority pretty much anywhere that isn’t an official gathering place for another school.
BK: This guy is on fire, he is really smokin'.
KenKo: Oh yeah, Bill? What's he smokin'?
I live in Hoboken
but sadly I’m doing work in Washington Heights tomorrow night and I get out at 8:45 ish. I don’t know if I’m gonna make it back to Hoboken. Anyone planning on going to East End?
Question:
I’ve watched every game this season on ESPN 360 rather than heading out to a bar. As we all know, the team has had a pretty good season and I’m afraid changing up my routine will mess with the vibe. Last year I went to Sign of the Whale for the first time when I watched the game against Oklahoma there and, obviously, I blame myself for that loss. I should have known better than trying something new with so much riding on the game.
So should I continue to try and watch all these games at home or should I branch out and go to a bar? (not Sign of the Whale, though, because that place is now cursed.)
I’m leaning towards watching from home.
Yeah, you're all right.
I did knot the answer. I was just hoping for something different, I guess.
At least I won’t have to put up with ESPN 360. CBS comes in crystal clear in HD through the antenna.
Maryland
is playing their first game opposite SU’s first game, so those of us in the MD/DC/VA area will have to choose our bars carefully. Make sure you find out not just that they will be showing the game, but that there will be a dedicated TV that won’t suddenly (and repeatedly) be flipped to the UMD game by an unaware member of the bar staff.
http://cusecountry.com
ugh
This is terrible. I have a work trip all day Friday. Flying to F*ing McCall, Idaho. Are you freakin’ kidding me?? I depart at 6pm and arrive back in San Francisco at 9pm PST. Yes, I will be in the air for the duration of this game. This literally breaks my heart.
Sunday however, I shall be watching the games in San Francisco at McTeague’s Saloon on lower Polk. I shouldn’t be that hard to find; unless there is more than one guy in a G-Mac jersey.
Are there other Cuse fans there?
or is Kezar the place for most?
Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician - The Syracuse blog that cares.
by Sean Keeley on Mar 18, 2010 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Good question
There are definitely a group of people here. Kezar is definitely the obvious answer because it’s one of the only decent sports bars in the City. But most people that live in SF who would either be Syrcause fans or have a rooting interest in the program don’t actually live anywhere near that bar.
As much of a crappy madhouse as it sometimes is, I’d say Green’s on Polk @ Green but the better choice might be McTeague’s on Polk @ Bush.
Cuse at Greens
We’re gonna try and do Greens both today and Sunday. And while yes, it can get crazy, it could be worth it bc the weather will be great and they take all the windows out. And if you can get there early and find some fellow cuse fans, we can muscle out an area. McTeagues can be a bit of a dark hole on nice days….

If there’s nothing here I might just travel to Seneca Falls, hotspot of Syracuse sports broadcasting and reporting.

depending on what shape I’m in, maybe I’ll try and make legends. Any capital region residents have now been officially warned.
I take it there's no standing Seattle bar at the moment?

Do you know Spitfire?
Not officially noted as the Seattle place for this game, but it is for other events

Atlanta
Does anyone know if SU people gather at the Hudson’s Grille in Midtown? I’m playing a concert that gets out when the game starts, and the Midtown bar would be way more manageable.
If not, if anyone’s downtown at the time you’ll be able to find me in the lone ’Cuse hoodie at Slice.
Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.
