Boeheim was just on PTI
Coach Boeheim was just on the Five Good Minutes segment of PTI. He said he likes Kansas to win the whole thing this year. He also said he doesn't expect Onuaku to play this weekend. They asked him about the injury, and he said he's not overly worried because Joseph already gets starter's minutes (he contrasted that by saying most teams, if a starter was out, would have to start a guy who normally only plays 15 minutes a game). He nodded in agreement when they said SU is a contender for the title.

Uggh
This AO forecast just gets worse and worse. I do not have a good feeling about this weekend…..

I hope he picked Kansas
To get the team riled up. Because if that’s what he really thinks…you can’t win the fight if you don’t give yourself a chance mentally
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
I mean
Do you think Bill Self would pick us or Kentucky to win the whole thing?
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
Did Bill Self say he expects KU to win it all?
Because thats an incredibly stupid thing to say publicly before going into the tournament.

No
Self said he’s worried about the consistancy that his team has been playing with and that he’s concerned about it in the tourney.

Probably the right thing to say
Kansas is a great team but I’ve yet to see them do it for 40 minutes.

Of course that is
But so is automatically saying you expect someone else to win it.
If Boeheim had qualified it by saying,“Well I hope for the best for us, but out of all the other teams I think Kansas has the best chance” he would not be predicting an SU championship but he wouldn’t be conceding to Kansas either
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
Disagree
Boeheim is way more savvy than you give him credit for. By naming Kansas he’s doing two things – it takes pressure off of SU and puts it on Kansas instead. The more people thinking KU will win it all, the more they have to live up to.
Also, what you first said in your original statement is true – it gets the team riled up. He does it all the time, every year. He wants his team to focus and not believe the hype for a second. The man knows what he’s doing.

Right
Boeheim knows what he’s doing
Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician - The Syracuse blog that cares.
the PTI guys said almost exactly that for him
something along the lines of, “now we’re letting you pick yourself to win it but we know you won’t, so if it’s not you, then who do you think will win it?”
Syracuse players have a lot of length.
We will obliterate Vermont
There is simply no reason to play AO vs. Vermont if he’s not 100% healthy. Do they even have a center anyways? I’ll take Rick and even Dashonte over whatever big galut they put on the floor. Period.
As for the next game vs. Gonzaga or FSU, it’ll take Rick getting into foul trouble before I get worried. And if that happens and the team is in serious trouble, I bet we see AO sac up and play a few minutes off the bench, unless the injury is far, far worse than reported.

Im still a little worried
Maurice Joseph played for michigan state, so it’s not like he’s a no-name recruit (not to mention his good bloodlines). And this Blakely guy seems pretty damn good too.
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
Bloodlines
Tommie Aaron
Ken Brett
Larry Yount
Ozzie Canseco
Dan McGwire
Jeremy Giambi
Brent Barry
Ok so most of these guys are baesball players, but you get the picture.

The only bloodline I care about
Or should I say, DYNASTY:

I only wish all of the Duanys could have played for SU. And all at the same time. If nothing else, it would confuse the hell out of everyone.

Slick Rick Hasn't Been So Slick Lately
That, coupled with the AO injury = cause for concern
I’m not saying that we’re doomed or anything. Merely pointing-out that many Cuse fans are more anxious about this weekend than fans of #1 seeds normally need to be.

I think it might have something to do with
the fact that we’re playing Vermont… a lot of bad memories there

if any other number 1 had lost 2 in a row
they’d be worried too. that coupled with the big unknown of the extent of AO’s injury…
i don’t think we need to be worried this weekend, but i think this team has become a mystery and we’re a fanbase that expects the worse.
we need to see the team come out and play hard, which we haven’t seen since the ‘Nova game. I fully expect intensity from them now that the games count. plus, one thing that gets lost with the AO injury was that Wes Johnson was lights out in the last game and he hasn’t been that good in months.
Go Orange
I'm cautiously optimistic.
We can beat these guys easily but we can’t just walk in and expect to get a gimme. I’m telling you Vermont will be just as much of a challenge as any team would, in fact I’d say opening weekend will be harder than Salt Lake if we can make it there.
Agreed
I think the last week has gotten us all a little too riled up. (Though, AO’s injury makes keeping a level head tougher.) Just two weeks ago we were the number one team in the AP poll! I think it will be a fun couple of weeks… let’s just sit back and see what this team can do. (Note: attitude may change when Vermont hits two quick threes to start Friday’s game.)
...it's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

That's J.B.'s fault
Should not have played to win against Louisville. The Louisville game was the most meaningless game in the history of Syracuse basketball. If you lose to LeMoyne in an exhibition, people talk about it all year. If you lose to Robert Morris in OOC, now it’s chink in your armor come tournament time. If you lost any other game… it hurts somehow, somewhere. Going into the Louisville game, we had practically locked up #1 seed in the NCAA’s (in fact, we apparently had), and had locked up #1 in BE and #1 seed in the BET.
The only reason to play hard is to give THEM a chance to get another big win. Huh? That’s not our concern.
Instead… we played to win… lost… and now the team has a reason to question itself. If you “can’t beat Louisville,” how can you think you can win it all. And then losing to G’Town… that’s two in a row.
The A.O. injury was unavoidable. He had to play. He could have had the same injury in practice. That is the biggest reason for the concern going into the NCAA’s.
But, from a mental standpoint, the 1-2-3 punch of negativity could have been avoided. And the extra PT for Riley against Louisville would have been helpful for this weekend.
Let's just assume AO's out of the dance
Better that way. No expectations that he’ll come back on his hobbled leg or whatever.
Let’s just play and support the guys we got and trust them to get it done, or atleast try their damndest to get it done.
What’ll suck is the team “giving in” in a game. As long as they dont do that – am cool with whoever wears the Orange.
