I like the bracket...

I think we will be ready after getting a dose of potential reality in the last 2 games…

by Cuse9344 on Mar 14, 2010 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

I think we actually have a pretty tough road

especially with Vermont first, and then with K-State and Pitt on the other side, and if we get beyond that we get Kansas early

LETS GO ORANGE!

There. Buck up folks.

Duke is done in second round.

We play in Buffalo in first 2 rounds.

We have favorable bracket save for Pitt.

SHUT IT DOWN!

The 'Cuse is in tha house, oh my God oh my God.

by StrawHatGuy on Mar 14, 2010 6:53 PM EDT reply actions

I think lllvlll could give Duke fits

press them for 40 minutes

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 14, 2010 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions

bought two tickets to houston

earlier. Such fucking bullshit.

Of course this committee would find a way to kick us in the balls, then do it again with Vermont.

Otherwise, I think that we have a decent draw. No Big East teams before Pitt.

I’m worried about gonzaga though

by desoto86 on Mar 14, 2010 6:58 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

Gonzaga is what scares me. Seems pretty agreed across the “experts” that Gonzaga is underseeded as an 8.

by Sadler1 on Mar 14, 2010 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

no kidding

Everyone had them playing as a top 4/5 seed in Spokane before they lost their WCC title game. Now they’re an 8 seed?

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 14, 2010 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I almost bought Houston tickets.

Really wanted that South bracket so I could actually see them. Oh well.

by NOLACuse on Mar 15, 2010 1:35 AM EDT up reply actions

NOt bad

Could’ve been better, could’ve bee worse

I too was scared when I saw Vermont. But let’s be honest — if we can’t beat Vermont, we have no right to complain about anything. Let’s win two games in Buffalo and move on.

Must stop...

Reading Syracuse-related tweets (despite the fact it’s been trending since the beginning of the selection show).

They’re still not getting any respect (to the point that it’s obnoxious). Hopefully, the team feels this too because they always play better with a chip on their shoulders.

by NYCuse on Mar 14, 2010 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Game Time?

When do they announce times? I want to scalp some tix for Friday. Will we play afternoon or night? Seem to recall 1 seeds play at night… Anyone know?

by Chris Williams on Mar 14, 2010 7:23 PM EDT reply actions

Who and why?

Who is this Jameson Fleming that calls himself a freelance sports journalist? And why is he saying AO is definitely out?

by NYCuse on Mar 14, 2010 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

Damn

What an awful way to end an incredible season (for AO and the team)

by NYCuse on Mar 14, 2010 7:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Let's not act

like it’s already over. Jeebus.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

by FatK44 on Mar 14, 2010 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Indeed.

Let’s play the games, shall we? AO is great to have, but I think we’re capable of the Sweet 16 without him.

by That Guy Mel on Mar 14, 2010 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

We can definitely win without him.

In fact, there have been times when we were better WITHOUT him, namely in trap games.

by adselver15 on Mar 14, 2010 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Gonzaga

Looked tough when AO was still a possibility. Now it looks even tougher. They’ve got 2 big guys who are major impact players.

by NYCuse on Mar 14, 2010 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Tough, indeed. Impossible, no.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

by FatK44 on Mar 14, 2010 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

AO usually doesn't match up well with big guys anyway.

He excels against small teams and I know we can beat other big teams.

by adselver15 on Mar 14, 2010 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

This always happens to SU, we never do good with expectations.

It seems everytime we’re a favorite going into March, we get beat by a garbage team or someone gets hurt. Ex: 2005 lost to Vermont, 1991 loss to Richmond, etc. When ever we make deep run it’s a bit of surprise.

by upstateNYYFan1984 on Mar 14, 2010 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

To confirm upstate...

Axe just reported Boeheim said that AO will not practice tomorrow/tues, and if he doesn’t practice wednesday (which he said looks unlikely) he will not play the first weekend. Commence stomach turning….

by Sadler1 on Mar 14, 2010 7:34 PM EDT reply actions

Well...

That’s not good. I still think we can beat UVM without AO, but beyond that…uhh……

by That Guy Mel on Mar 14, 2010 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I had a nice chuckle when I saw we drew Vermont in the first round. They have some sense of humor, that selection committee. I know I’ll get some razzing from my ‘Cuse-hating friends here in Connecticut. But I know we’ll beat them. I am slightly worried about Gonzaga, though. (Even though they can get got, too.)

Go ORANGE! Beat the fucking Catamounts and get Tom Brennan away from TV again.

by That Guy Mel on Mar 14, 2010 7:35 PM EDT reply actions

Vermont does not have the players they did in 05

no coppenrath or sorrentine, two guys who were fantastic college players. Cuse by 30

by Orange Drink on Mar 14, 2010 7:45 PM EDT reply actions

True....

But we’ll still be subjected to ESPN going to the wayback machine and trotting out those ‘05 highlights. Won’t be pleasant, that’s for sure.

But we should be able to smash them this go-round. We’re better than in ‘05, they’re not as good and we’re gonna have a home-court advantage (of sorts) in Buffalo. We’ll be fine.

by That Guy Mel on Mar 14, 2010 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Kris Joseph's Brother

Can’t believe nobody has pointed out that KJ’s brother plays for Vermont.

by boriscleto on Mar 14, 2010 8:00 PM EDT reply actions

What about Bob?

Let’s not get caught up in worrying about the Zags. Remember — we’re the #1 seed. Teams need to worry about SU’s weapons. And the Orangemen have a number of them.

by Cooper's Dad on Mar 14, 2010 8:16 PM EDT reply actions

Love the region

Possibly the easiest region….I’m thinking they easily make it up to Kansas then it gets tough

Easy now...

It will be tough — especially if we have to play without AO. But I do agree with you…SU’s draw is VERY favorable

by Cooper's Dad on Mar 14, 2010 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I still see Duke as having the easiest draw

especially with a fading Nova and fading Purdue as their 2-4 seeds. Damnit, that should have been ours!

Nahhh...

Duke will struggle with the Ville if they get by Cal. L’Ville will cause all sorts of problems for Duke

by Cooper's Dad on Mar 14, 2010 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Depends which L'Ville team shows up

But if the right one does, I’m with you there. In the last 5 or 6 years, I’d say Duke is a team that consistently got a very high seed and then disappointed relatively early. I don’t think they’re going to the Elite Eight.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

by Bernie Fine is the Man on Mar 14, 2010 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

Axe said it on his bracket breakdown show

And its on his twitter. Other than that, Waters probably has (or will have) something up

by Sadler1 on Mar 14, 2010 8:37 PM EDT reply actions

Didn't say anything about that...

Just said he is likely not to go this weekend, and the rest of the season is conjecture. The only thing it sounded like Boeheim spoke to was his likely unavailability for the 1st and 2nd round

by Sadler1 on Mar 14, 2010 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I’m concerned about the Gonzaga/FSU matchup, granted we avoid a 89 Georgetown or 2007 UConn, in which I will be really really concerned if we struggle against Vermont. That being said, I like our sweet 16 possibilities if we get past the 2nd round fine, because I think we can do a very fine job against Butler or Vanderbilt.

Oh, and of course I’ll be missing the 2nd round game heading back up to SU unless my bus somehow has wifi (which for the record, I’ve been on 14 bus trips (7 round-trip) this academic year, and the only time I got a wifi bus was when I was going on a whopping 35 minute ride to Cortland. Without my laptop)

Onuaku

Rochester sportscaster: "He was at the press conference to discuss Syracuse’s seeding without a limp or any noticeable signs of the injury. Boeheim did not completely rule Onuaku out of either game this weekend. "

Only thing

that would have made me cringe more would have been if ’Cuse was a 2 and Vermont a 15

by OrangeInSC on Mar 14, 2010 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

Why?

The loss would be 1,000 times more disastrous as a 1-16 matchup. It’s never happened. Meanwhile, we are one of just a handful of teams to lose 2-15 matchups.

My final 4

Ohio State over Syracuse
WVU over Baylor

Ohio St. Champs

As for what I picked of note:
Syracuse over Vermont, Gonzaga, UTEP, BYU.
I also picked every 12 seed over the 5’s.
Siena to the elite 8.
Richmond(our other pals) over Nova.
Expect Ohio to give GTown trouble.

Anybody feel Jay Bilas is looking at a summer house in the Finger Lakes or something? Besides the usual Kansas stuff like everyone else on ESPN, he’s going on and on about Syracuse being a final four pick and… Cornell as an elite 8 pick, beating Kentucky in the process. Man must love CNY or something.

by RyanMcD29 on Mar 14, 2010 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

FWIW

The more I listen to Bilas, the more I agree with the guy and see his thinking. Bilas and Bob Knight have been the smartest commentators I’ve listened to this year.

Hubert Davis, Digger Phelps, and Doug Gottlieb remain morons.

by Fly Rodder on Mar 15, 2010 9:01 AM EDT up reply actions

+1

Bilas gets extra points because he went to Duke, and still sees how the ACC is weak.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

by FatK44 on Mar 15, 2010 9:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with Bilas being one of the smart guys on ESPN

But I just don’t see Cornell making that deep of a run. Other than that, though, I think he’s got a good bracket and didn’t fall into the UK trap like everyone else.

by RyanMcD29 on Mar 15, 2010 11:43 AM EDT up reply actions

i'm kinda happy about the seeding..

even texas a&m as a 5seed in the southern region would have been a disaster… this way we get…

1. local opening round games (I’M ROAD TRIPPING!!)
2. a chance for vengeance
3. no clear traps after the opening week

let’s go orange!!
