Five biggest Big East spring questions - Big East Blog - ESPN
At Syracuse, head coach Doug Marrone takes over the offense as his own coordinator. Will the Orange run a lot of motion and misdirection stuff like they did in an upset of Rutgers near the end of the year, when some suggested Marrone was calling the shots? And which receivers will step up to help Ryan Nassib and the passing game?

"I think as far as a real conference, right now it has some of the highest ranked teams in the country," Desko said. "It has media legitimacy. We’ve seen Big East basketball and how it’s grown and what it’s done, and we certainly want to be part of it if it’s going to help lacrosse in general and help the conference grow."

Wow. Cuse, time to chill with the cost increases.

Yea.

I get state school cost increases what with budget deficits and stuff. (I don’t like it and think they need to find another way, but I get it). But why schools like SU? It’s not like they are hurting because any state financial problems. Private schools: just because public schools are hiking tuition doesn’t mean you need to follow suit!

Its crazy spending coming back to bite you in the ass. New construction adds up. Inflation. Limited return on investments. Chancy Nancy also has giving money away in an effort to win over the city.

Football dollars would be helping right now.

football and basketball revenues are irrelevant to tuition

that money stays in the athletic department, the rest of the school doesn’t see a dime from that. the school can get money through donations that are inspired by the athletics and money from people who apply/go to the school as a result of athletics or apparel purchased from the bookstore, etc., but ticket sales and booster activity and stuff are completely separate.

we need money because i recently read that our endowment fund took a HUGE hit these last couple years. glad i got out when the tuition was only in the high 40’s (never thought i’d say that)

watch The U (espn has been showing it all the time) and see what football did for that university. It brings in better students, sells regular t shirts, and makes donors go crazy. Also, we wouldnt have to subsidize athletics like we are right now.

Endowments go up and down depending on the economy. Syracuse charges a lot of tuition, but endowments are another big form of income for SU.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

Re: Bilas and cosmetic foundation

Yes, he and gram’s are comparable. I blame the influence of Rafftery, however.

Re: Tuition hikes. I have no way (interest) in verifying it, but I imagine their endowments/investments have taken substantial hits b/c of the economy. Or maybe they just want richer richish kids to enroll more generally and said economic woes provide a convenient pretext to make it happen. Whatever. I don’t go there.

Go Orange. (Get well, AO!)

Investment Performance
During the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, the Long-Term Investment Fund had a total loss of -25.5 percent.

Our endowment lost a shit ton of money this past year…

JESUS CHRIST

$52,000 a year!?!?!? My son is a newborn. I planned on raising him to love Syracuse, and to one day, dream of going there. FUCK THAT. I live in NJ, so obviously Rutgers is out but…sorry son, Daddy can’t afford the $150,000 cost of tuition in 2028. Looks like it’s The College of New Jersey for you!

I'm just gonna make sure my kid(s) is either:

a) crazy, ridiculously good at one or more sports (whether through natural talent or extremely hard work)

or

b) really, really smart (good grades, good SATs, lots of extracurriculars, etc)

Otherwise, state school mofo.

I was just saying the same thing to my wife. Somehow I don’t think my 10-month-old daughter will be following in daddy’s footsteps at Syracuse unless she gets a scholarship. :( I think I need to put a lacrosse stick in her hands as soon as she masters walking to help towards that fact.

We live in Florida. I saw something (encouraging me to start saving now) that said by the time she starts college in 2027, 4 years at a private institution may cost as much as $420k.
