Southern Miss to the Big East?
A friend on Facebook joined this group today. First I had heard of any of this.
Apparently someone from Southern Miss has heard from "reliable sources" that:
Big 10 will take Rutgers or Pitt (most likely Rutgers) from the Big East.
Big East WILL move to 12.
They will need 5 teams to get there.
Southern Miss will be in that 5, along with ECU, Memphis, UCF, and possibly Marshall.
Louisville AD is leading the charge for Southern Miss

I dont think anyone knows
who the Big 12 will take. And the Big 12 clearly wants a big fish like Texas or Nebraska over Rutgers.

*shrug*
That’s why I tagged it “rumor mongering”
Interesting that two group members reported BE people visiting their campus, so hopes for expansion regardless of haw the Big 12 plays out. Probably an awful lot of wishful thinking on their end, though.

Something to work with
This got me thinking, why not Marshall. They are near WVU and reasonably close to Louisville too. Add UCF to give USF a close rival and then if we lose Pitt or Rutgers we have 9 teams, which makes for 4 home/awy games.
Drop Marquette, Notre Dame and DePaul in basketball and we become more big EAST when slimming down basketball (14 teams) and fattening football (9 teams).
FB:
SYR, UConn, WVU, USF, Cin, Lou, Marshall, UCF and either Rutgers/Pitt
plus in basketball:
Vill, Georgetwon, STJ, SH and Prov.
We don’t allienate basketball, get a firmer hold in Florida and stay as relivent as we are now in football.

I still suspect what actually happens
doesn’t directly affect us much. It’ll be Missouri to the Big Ten, Colorado and Utah to the Pac 10, TCU and BYU to the Big 12.
