To say Fab Melo has struggled in eight games this season would be an understatement. When he "shattered" personal bests with five points and four rebounds during the first half of a game last week, Syracuse fans were ready to fete him aboard Jabba The Hut's pleasure barge while watching Cornell players find a new definition of pain and suffering as they were slowly digested over a thousand years in Sarlaac's tummy.
Syracuse fans want answers. Hell, the rest of the college basketball nation wants answers. Jim Boeheim practically handed Melo the Big East Freshman of the Year honors before the season even started...what gives?
Syracuse University coach Jim Boeheim revealed on a conference call today that center Fab Melo has been nursing an injury to his Achilles tendon that has slowed his progress.
"His Achilles has been sore for a couple weeks and he's having trouble getting up and down the court like we need him to," Boeheim said. "That's held him back."
When reached for comment, Achilles himself was upbeat about the injury and expects Feb, and his teammates, to recover quickly:
Orangemen! My brothers of the roudball! I would rather fight beside you than any army of thousands! Let no man forget how menacing we are, we are lions! Do you know what's waiting beyond that beach? Immortality! Take it! It's yours!
Achilles was then shot with an arrow by this guy. So, you know, take his word with a grain of salt.
