Justin Stangel and his pairs partner Nareg Guregian of Cal took an early lead in the trials and held on in what looks like quite an exciting race. Justin, a former teammate of mine, rowed in the Varsity Eight from 2004 to 2007 which had consecutive undefeated duals seasons and strong finishes at the IRA National Championships.  After Syracuse, Justin went on to row for Oxford in 2008 and 2009, stroking the winning Isis crew over former Orange Oarsmen Bartosz Szczyrba '07 and Dan O'Shaughnessy '06 who rowed for Cambridge.  In the summer of 2008 he won the Visitors' Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta.  Justin now trains at Oklahoma City National High Performance Center with fellow Orange Alum Martin Etem '09 who finished third in the very competitive men's single finals.

Gareg Guregian, fresh off a national championship with Cal, rowed with current Orange Senior Mike Genarro on the U23 squad and jr national teams.

Anna Goodale '05 was again named a member of the womens 8 for our national team.  The Olympic Champion and multiple time world champ is one of the most accomplished rowers in Syracuse history.  The US boat is expected to be the favorite in this race.
