Syracuse Daily Links - Predictions & Whatnot

Orange::44: West Virginia Quick Predictions
Pittsburgh gave us hope, but there is none against this tough team. Can we even call this a rivalry game anymore? A rivalry implies we win this game once in a while. Either way, look for Syracuse to lose, as expected 38 to 17.

Three Idiots on Sports: Syracuse - West Virginia Official Idiotic Predictions
As much as I want the Orange to win, I just don't see how they can move the ball effectively. I think the defense bounces back and plays much better, but eventually wears down because they'll be on the field all damn day.

College Football Buffet, Week 8: LSU vs. Auburn, Oklahoma vs. Missouri Are Must-Eats - SBNation.com
Herein Sean Keeley previews every noteworthy game being played this week, and tells you which ones are worth watching, and which aren't, along the way. Plus, TV information!

Starks Contrast: The Impact of Brad Starks on WVU's Offense - The Smoking Musket
Six catches for 145 yards and four touchdowns. That's the total contribution this season from Bradley Starks, WVU's most veteran deep threat.

Daryl Gross on the new Manley, SU Football at the halfway point, and more (podcast) | syracuse.com
"I think if we said we'd be 4-2 after six games we would all be excited. Of course we always want more, we are always pushing for more, and Doug (Marrone) has done a wonderful job of creating a culture and foundation that is going to be strong. I don't think anyone out there doubts that as the future goes, that he is going to be really good."

Syracuse looking for consistency  - Sports - The Charleston Gazette - West Virginia News and Sports -
In truth, then, it is hard to tell how much Syracuse has improved since Marrone took over for Greg Robinson, who had one-, two-, three- and four-win seasons (not in that order) in four years as the SU coach. That fourth win this season, though, might be an indicator. Syracuse beat South Florida 13-9, holding the Bulls without an offensive touchdown in Tampa.

The Cuse Connection: Syracuse Looks to Get Back on Track in Morgantown
WVU's rushing defense has allowed 83.2 yards per game, which is 4th best in the nation. Their 248.5 total yards per game allowed is 5th best in the country.

Otto The Orange: Cute, Cuddly, Harmless Mascot...Or Vicious Killer? - The Smoking Musket
In a Smoking Musket exclusive, we have delved deep into the dark, twisted past of Otto the Orange, uncovering a side of him that few remember and almost no one cares to admit.

Loss to Syracuse spurs Colgate on
Since losing to the Orange last month, Colgate has won three straight, and convincingly. They defeated FCS rivals Georgetown, Princeton and Cornell by a cumulative score of 122-16.

Top wings: Newcomer Barnes No. 1 on this list, too - NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com
Joseph proved last season that he could be a great role player behind Wesley Johnson. But now Johnson is gone, and Joseph must blossom into a star for the Orange to remain near the top of the Big East. I suspect he will (and that they will, too).

And then there were none - Cuse Country
Here is your final list of 2010-11 NBA ballers out of Syracuse

Missouri Tigers must embrace or ignore streak to beat Oklahoma Sooners - ESPN
"I think the thing that happened is we stopped looking at 'Penn State,'" said McPherson, now an entrepreneur and a college football analyst for MSG. "You always went into the season and the game always loomed on the schedule. We stayed so focused on every game [in 1987], we never thought about them until we got to them."

What is this? What's going on? Who is Mac Miller? Why is this happening? Why do I feel so old?

I want to petition

that Orange:44 remove the number 44 from their name on the grounds that they are the most pessimistic fans ever, and were Jim Brown, Ernie Davis or Floyd Little playing for Syracuse this weekend; Orange 44 would have an article about how over rated they are.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
