Big East Coaches Provide Kris Joseph With Motivation

The Big East Media presented their preseason picks yesterday. Today, the Big East Coaches did the same. For the most part, it's the same deal. Pitt is No. 1, Villanova No. 2 and Syracuse No. 3. Austin Freeman is your Player of the Year and Fab Melo is your Rookie of the Year.

There is one glaring difference, however, when it comes to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The first-team, which even includes six players for some dumb reason, does not include SU's Kris Joseph. The guy who received two POY votes from the media doesn't even get on the first-team with the coaches.

KrisJo, if you were looking for motivation, here it is. The coaches you will be playing against do not consider you All-Big-East talent. Commence proving them wrong.

Rick Jackson makes an appearance on the Honorable Mention list, so that's nice.

Also, I know Steve Lavin had some success at UCLA seventy years ago, but what lunatic decided to give St. John's a first-place vote? And no, Lavin can't vote for himself. Anyone care to admit? (Update - It was Pitino.)

Shouts and Murmurs
  • It had to be Pitino that gave St. John’s the first-place vote. I’m pretty sure he did it in the spring and said he’d do it again. The East Coast Bias reaffirmed that on Twitter this morning.
  • I’m not sure why the league continues to sleep on Rick Jackson. I have a hard time believing he’s not one of the 10 best players in the conference, and he’s easily one of the more accomplished/polished baseline guys in the league.
  • It’s no great shakes to me that Joseph didn’t make first-team. He’s in good company on the second-team with Jimmy Butler. What is appalling is that Jeremy Hazell made first-team. A fucking chucker is considered one of the better players in the conference according to the coaches? What the fuck are they watching? He’s not even the most important player on Seton Hall’s roster this year, nevermind in the league.

They watched the Butler game?

I don’t like to pick on college kids very often, but the guy might as well have had hooks for hands. At least then there was a chance of the ball being impaled on one of the hooks, rather than being accelerated out of bounds.

Anything that happened after Onuaku went out doesn't count, in my opinion.

What happened with Riley happened with Jackson, just on a smaller scale.

By the end of the season, Jackson and Onuaku had found their rhythm and roles of playing together. Then in an instant Jackson was expected to be THE guy. He wasn’t ready. He’ll be ready after this summer.

Hate format

Why does the ABE team not use positions? What kinda of team has 4 Gs and a F on it? If you want, go to 3 teams the BE is so large. But have 1 C, 2 Fs, and 2 Gs. If you have those then KJ makes the 1st team and Hazell is a 3rd teamer.

1st Team
Austin Freeman
Ashton Gibbs
Kevin Jones
Kris Joseph
C ???

2nd Team
Kemba Walker
Corey Fisher
Jimmy Butler
D.J. Kennedy
C ???

3rd Team
Jeremy Hazell
Chris Wright
Tim Abromaitis
Rick Jackson
C ???

Honorable Mention
Yancy Gates
Darius Johnson-Odom

We all know that these things don't mean shit but

Kris does have a lot to prove. He will get each teams best defender on him and schemes aimed at stopping him. If he hasn’t improved the range on his jump shot he isn’t 1st team BE material.

I just hope the team has the chemistry they had last year and people can fill the holes left by Andy, Wes and Arinze.

Let’s Go Orange!

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
