The Coaches Keep Getting Older, but the Players Stay the Same Age

Via the DO I had the joy of discovering SU Athletic's men's bball team photo and stats page, stretching back to the 1965-1966 season (with a several year gap between that season and the '73-'74 season).

Wow, is it great to look back at some of the teams I grew up loving, remembering names and faces.

But really what drew me to the site was the mention of Bernie Fine's mustache in the 1980s. And sure enough:

That's Mr. Fine and his sweet 'stache second in from the left in the back row. (Of note, that's Leo Rautins wearing #11 in the front row. Andy's father! Did you know Leo played ball for Syracuse? Seriously! Why doesn't anyone mention this connection during the games?!)

With that in mind, a fun activity is to quickly scroll up from 1976-1977 to today and watch Bernie Fine's hair recede (man had a 'fro in 1980!) and face get a bit rounder.

Also, something I did not know. Check out the photo from 1965-1966:

Yes, that's Jimmy B wearing #35 as a player (we all knew that). But who's that kneeling in the center with the ball? None other than Team Manger Bernie Fine!

Without a doubt, Bernie Fine is forever.
