If you go to Georgetown
The standards have definitely fallen since I turned them down a couple of years ago
So what you're telling me is...
Syracuse Sucks? I’m not sure I buy it, Mr. Green. Oh hey, by the way, your son traveled on that play that got you guys to the Final 4 a few years ago. Big time.
Who knew
That Jeff Green’s dad was 10 years old? That’s some weird miracle of genetics and childbirth, I’ll tell you that.
This is weak
For “The Smartest People Ever!” I was expecting a little more creativity.
It’s as drab and plain as blue and grays.
Technically
It is not an argument, because an argument requires premises as well as a conclusion. Therefore, it is impossible for it to be invalid.

I decided to reply
over on Casual Hoya: http://www.casualhoya.com/2010/1/24/1267666/georgetown-sucks
Go, fight, and win.
this is sad.
Georgetown doesn’t even matter anymore. It is UConn and Syracuse now. MSG prays it gets a UConn Syracuse game in the tournament. It is UConn we circle on the calendar in the beginning of the year.
The Yankees and the Royals were once bitter rivals too. There is no need to retort at their blog. Stop the foolishness.
Are you high?
We won 2 of the last 3 Big East Championships and got to a Final Four in the last 3 years.
It's not you, it's me.

I don't get it
My SAT score is without a doubt higher than anyone else’s on this board.
It's not you, it's me.
What is it?
Have fun beating mine

2005 SAT
Reading:510
Math:610
English:550
Essay:8
I don’t go to SU though so it’s not valid for this argument.
blah blah blah
3.94 GPA in electrical engineering, Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi
SATs were different when I took them (730 math 630 verbal)
Do you know what all that means in the context of college sports? Absolutely nothing.

That HAS to be a joke. It’s pathetic enough that you wrote this “article” but now you’re actually bragging about your SAT score? Worse yet, you’re without a doubt wrong.

I thought the SAT is dead
Dont people just take the ACT now?
mine was 1420
i took it once with a bad headcold. yeah im making an excuse for my score, shows a thing or two about orange standards.

1550?
you might be the top student at georgetown then
anyway, i got an 1880
so suck it
by Wes Johnson Might Be God on Jan 24, 2010 8:46 PM EST reply actions
1880... lets make this a timeless argument and convert
so out of 1600, for the sake of us old folks….
~Luke B.
My SAT score...
… was recorded 20 years ago… so who gives a fuck?
Let’s get back on message people. Since Georgetown won the National Championship… a quarter century ago. they’ve been to the tournament 16 times and 2 final 4’s. In the same period, SU has had 20 tournament appearances, has been to 3 final 4’s and has won a NC. Thus SU > Georgetown. quod erat demonstrandum.

biased
georgetown definitely had a down period during the esherick years, expect the same when boeheim retires,
“Since Georgetown won the National Championship” is a pretty biased time frame for the argument you are making.
I can do the same: Since Syracuse won the National Championship – they have been to 4 ncaa tournaments, advanced past the first week twice, and made it to the sweet sixteen once. Georgetown has been to 3 ncaa tournaments, sweet sixteen twice and final four once. they also have two big east regular season championships, something cuse never did.
or how about since JT3 was hired six years ago, georgetown has been to the ncaa tournament three times, 2 sweet sixteen appearances, one final four, won a big east tourney title and two big east regular season titles.
Cuse has been to 3 ncaa tournaments, 1 sweet sixteen, two big east tourney titles, zero regular season championships
or how about since the big east started, 30 years ago, Georgetown has been to 21 ncaa tournaments, 4 final fours, 3 championship games and 1 championship. they have 7 big east tourney titles.
cuse has 23 ncaa tournament appearances, 3 final fours, 3 championship games, 1 championship and 5 BET titles
not so easy now
Good talk.

advanced past the first “day” twice

Well sure, its a biased argument
I’m a partisan for my side, just as you are for yours. I could have started talking about the applicability of college admissions scores or comparing basketball programs to modern day slavery, but that’s just stupid… who would do that?
I’d say that we could get a UConn graduate here to truly analyze the two schools in an unbiased and objective manner, but not sure the work-release program under which they operate allows for such a last-minute request.
by Trapped_In_ACC_Hell on Jan 25, 2010 10:10 AM EST up reply actions
I really can’t think of a way to refute this argument, I guess I’ll have to be a Georgetown fan now after seeing such eloquent discussion on the intricacies of college hoops.
It’s funny because the OP probably doesn’t understand most of those 3 syllable words.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
AARIN MEIBIN IS TEH SUZZORZ, am I right?
the Big East Champion is
The winner of the tournament at the Garden. G’town won in 2007 and 1989. Thats not quite two out of the last three.
regular season champs i think he meant
2007 2008

Talk about a rivalry that "lost its luster"
That’s what ESPN is saying about this. What a bunch of BS. Clearly all this trolling shows the rivalry is alive and well.
Really
It has surely fallen off from its peak in the 80s. Syracuse/UConn is the Big East game of the season. Ever since Thompson walked away from his team, things just haven’t been the same.
As an aside, Thompson is really a nice guy. I gained a lot of respect for him listening to his radio show in the DC area. When he doesn’t have to interview Clinton Portis or whatever, and just talks sports, it is pretty entertaining.
disagree
cuse / uconn is a good rivalry but when was the last time they played each other twice in the regular season?
cuse/uconn is the equivalent of gtown/nova
gtown/cuse are still the major games on the BE schedule – at least for older alums and the media
Good talk.
by Hire Esherick on Jan 25, 2010 9:40 AM EST up reply actions
would Cuse fans root for UConn
in the NCAA tourney as part of a root for the big east teams thing? Would they root for Gtown?
I think that’s the difference..
It's not me, It's you
by SomebodyBuyAustinaSteak on Jan 25, 2010 4:45 PM EST up reply actions
I would root for any BE team in the tournament except for UConn or Georgetown.
Although WVU, Nova, and Louisville are inches away.
Embarassing...
dumbass yuppy hoya fans like this are embarrassing….go pop your collar and root for vandy
right...
yuppy, collar popping kids is what the cuse student section is comprised of…
75% of your school is from NJ, LI and CT as well… georgetown just gets the smart ones.
Good talk.
by Hire Esherick on Jan 25, 2010 9:35 PM EST up reply actions
The context of the presented written article disagree with your assessment.
Not to mention most of Cuse is from NY & MA. Just the smart ones? Keep telling yourself that.
Go Orange(men)!
LI Resident here
and I know kids in my town who’ve gone to Syracuse, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, NYU, Cooper Union, Cornell, BC, Penn State, George Washington, and Pitt.
Nobody has gone to Georgetown
Though really, both Georgetown and Syracuse are tier 1 schools with very good academics, so I’m not gonna go into a battle of academics. On the playing field, however, the Orange have fared better than the Hoyas. Also I’ll say Georgetown and UConn are 1 and 2 respectively in terms of rivalries. UConn has been very big but I think today proved that this rivalry’s still very well relevant. In a way it’s kinda like comparing it to Hopkins and Virginia in terms of rivalries, more so a historical vs. present where the historical still has the upper hand (though Hopkins you can make the case as present as well)
easy to battle on academics
but at the end who cares, means nothing on a bball blog. so i withdraw my previous statement
see u f-ers in a couple of weeks.

No matter how smart you want to sound, you’re still just a troll

this whole trolling concept is bullshit
just ask your very own hoya suxa.
if you aint trolling you aint trying
most of youse are on the other blog anyway

No
Georgetown uses affirmative action and other bullshit like that. Besides the School of Foreign Services, Georgetown isn’t that great. If you want to be a diplomat, Georgetown is second to none.
And FTR, I go to Michigan but grew up a Cuse fan because my dad went there for grad school.
So anyway
Glad we settled that for the time being. Have fun with Duke, see you in DC.

I live near Gtown
I have tons of friends who work in the bar industry there. If Gtown has the bright ones then may the lord save our nation. Most of the people out in Gtown are not too quick.
The only bars I go to in DC are in DuPont Circle.
Not going anywhere near that diploma mill in northwest DC>
what a crock
you telling me a bunch of your bartender buddies dont think georgetown kids are smart while drunk?
at least they’re smart enough not to document it… Beer Over Brains

WAZZZUPPP GEORGETOWN!!!
Where you at now Jeff Green’s Dad? Where is YOUR PUNKASS NOW!!!
In the illustrious words of Chris Tucker, “You just got knocked the f*** out!”
Yeah Yeah
Sure, we got beat. Y’all outplayed us and that sucks. I wanted us to play ten times better than that and at the very least give you a game.
But…
I’m still glad we didn’t play a woman-abusing skeeze (and go ahead throw Iverson at us AGAIN and then realize that alleged encounter happened BEFORE JTJr. brought him to the Hilltop rather than UNDER the protective wing of his coach).
I’m still glad my coach goes into timeouts wanting to talk to his players instead of whining (and I really can’t think of any other word for his expression) to the referees, and is able to hold a press conference without taking out his frustrations on inanimate objects (microphones/chairs).
I’m still glad that despite a whole host of goofy crap our student section would do to ‘Cuse fans if y’all were nearby, that we haven’t resorted to throwing bottles at you.
I’m still glad that when I drive in winter around my college city, my car doesn’t come out looking like old grey dog crap.
I’m still glad my mascot is a real dog as opposed to a big Orange tumor.
And finally, I’m still glad I get to see your team’s Orange asses again at our house. I want blood.
So there’s a lot to be happy about today, really. The sun still shines…which is more than I can say for Syracuse, NY.
::clears throat::
I’m still glad that when I drive in winter around my college city, my car doesn’t come out looking like old grey dog crap.
Actually, I live in the DC area. And having formally lived in Upstate, I’m still amazed, nearly 20 years later, at how frightened people around here get at just the threat of a few inches of snow. So while you’re car might not look like “old grey dog crap” during the winter, part of the reason for that is that you’re just not driving your car because you’re too scared to go anywhere in it.
Your mascot got drowned by Michael Vick
When Syracuse plays Georgetown, you have to remember one thing. It’s not a game for us. We ain’t talking about a game. Not a game. We talkin’ bout practice. THat’s all you are. Practice. PRACTICE! SUCK IT HOYA!
Whether it was whining, or yelling, or whatever, our coach managed to pump his team up to turn a 14 point deficit into a 17 point lead. So yeah, maybe your coach should try a little whining.
Scoreboard
A Hoya says something nice about Syracuse.
Y’know, back in the day I could have sworn I won a $500 NCAA pool because of Syracuse. And I never got to say thankyou.
So, I would like to thank the Orange of my G-G-Generation for making history and losing to Richmond.

Syracuse will not just win tonight,
They will hurt Georgetown’s feelings… Like a freshman girl taking the same morning walk of shame for the second time in a couple weeks.
She promised herself she wouldn’t let it happen again.
We're coming for you...
