If you go to Georgetown

The standards have definitely fallen since I turned them down a couple of years ago

So what you're telling me is...

Syracuse Sucks? I’m not sure I buy it, Mr. Green. Oh hey, by the way, your son traveled on that play that got you guys to the Final 4 a few years ago. Big time.

Technically

It is not an argument, because an argument requires premises as well as a conclusion. Therefore, it is impossible for it to be invalid.

this is sad.

Georgetown doesn’t even matter anymore. It is UConn and Syracuse now. MSG prays it gets a UConn Syracuse game in the tournament. It is UConn we circle on the calendar in the beginning of the year.

The Yankees and the Royals were once bitter rivals too. There is no need to retort at their blog. Stop the foolishness.

My SAT score...

… was recorded 20 years ago… so who gives a fuck?

Let’s get back on message people. Since Georgetown won the National Championship… a quarter century ago. they’ve been to the tournament 16 times and 2 final 4’s. In the same period, SU has had 20 tournament appearances, has been to 3 final 4’s and has won a NC. Thus SU > Georgetown. quod erat demonstrandum.

by Trapped_In_ACC_Hell on Jan 24, 2010 8:57 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

biased

georgetown definitely had a down period during the esherick years, expect the same when boeheim retires,

“Since Georgetown won the National Championship” is a pretty biased time frame for the argument you are making.

I can do the same: Since Syracuse won the National Championship – they have been to 4 ncaa tournaments, advanced past the first week twice, and made it to the sweet sixteen once. Georgetown has been to 3 ncaa tournaments, sweet sixteen twice and final four once. they also have two big east regular season championships, something cuse never did.

or how about since JT3 was hired six years ago, georgetown has been to the ncaa tournament three times, 2 sweet sixteen appearances, one final four, won a big east tourney title and two big east regular season titles.

Cuse has been to 3 ncaa tournaments, 1 sweet sixteen, two big east tourney titles, zero regular season championships

or how about since the big east started, 30 years ago, Georgetown has been to 21 ncaa tournaments, 4 final fours, 3 championship games and 1 championship. they have 7 big east tourney titles.

cuse has 23 ncaa tournament appearances, 3 final fours, 3 championship games, 1 championship and 5 BET titles

not so easy now

Good talk.

and...

it was supposed to say

advanced past the first “day” twice

by Hire Esherick on Jan 25, 2010 10:02 AM EST up reply actions

Well sure, its a biased argument

I’m a partisan for my side, just as you are for yours. I could have started talking about the applicability of college admissions scores or comparing basketball programs to modern day slavery, but that’s just stupid… who would do that?

I’d say that we could get a UConn graduate here to truly analyze the two schools in an unbiased and objective manner, but not sure the work-release program under which they operate allows for such a last-minute request.

Talk about a rivalry that "lost its luster"

That’s what ESPN is saying about this. What a bunch of BS. Clearly all this trolling shows the rivalry is alive and well.

by adselver15 on Jan 25, 2010 7:32 AM EST reply actions

Really

It has surely fallen off from its peak in the 80s. Syracuse/UConn is the Big East game of the season. Ever since Thompson walked away from his team, things just haven’t been the same.

As an aside, Thompson is really a nice guy. I gained a lot of respect for him listening to his radio show in the DC area. When he doesn’t have to interview Clinton Portis or whatever, and just talks sports, it is pretty entertaining.

by SJ on Jan 25, 2010 9:31 AM EST reply actions

disagree

cuse / uconn is a good rivalry but when was the last time they played each other twice in the regular season?

cuse/uconn is the equivalent of gtown/nova

LI Resident here

and I know kids in my town who’ve gone to Syracuse, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, NYU, Cooper Union, Cornell, BC, Penn State, George Washington, and Pitt.

Nobody has gone to Georgetown

Though really, both Georgetown and Syracuse are tier 1 schools with very good academics, so I’m not gonna go into a battle of academics. On the playing field, however, the Orange have fared better than the Hoyas. Also I’ll say Georgetown and UConn are 1 and 2 respectively in terms of rivalries. UConn has been very big but I think today proved that this rivalry’s still very well relevant. In a way it’s kinda like comparing it to Hopkins and Virginia in terms of rivalries, more so a historical vs. present where the historical still has the upper hand (though Hopkins you can make the case as present as well)

Yeah Yeah

Sure, we got beat. Y’all outplayed us and that sucks. I wanted us to play ten times better than that and at the very least give you a game.

But…

I’m still glad we didn’t play a woman-abusing skeeze (and go ahead throw Iverson at us AGAIN and then realize that alleged encounter happened BEFORE JTJr. brought him to the Hilltop rather than UNDER the protective wing of his coach).

I’m still glad my coach goes into timeouts wanting to talk to his players instead of whining (and I really can’t think of any other word for his expression) to the referees, and is able to hold a press conference without taking out his frustrations on inanimate objects (microphones/chairs).

I’m still glad that despite a whole host of goofy crap our student section would do to ‘Cuse fans if y’all were nearby, that we haven’t resorted to throwing bottles at you.

I’m still glad that when I drive in winter around my college city, my car doesn’t come out looking like old grey dog crap.

I’m still glad my mascot is a real dog as opposed to a big Orange tumor.

And finally, I’m still glad I get to see your team’s Orange asses again at our house. I want blood.

So there’s a lot to be happy about today, really. The sun still shines…which is more than I can say for Syracuse, NY.

I’m still glad that when I drive in winter around my college city, my car doesn’t come out looking like old grey dog crap.

Actually, I live in the DC area. And having formally lived in Upstate, I’m still amazed, nearly 20 years later, at how frightened people around here get at just the threat of a few inches of snow. So while you’re car might not look like “old grey dog crap” during the winter, part of the reason for that is that you’re just not driving your car because you’re too scared to go anywhere in it.

Your mascot got drowned by Michael Vick

When Syracuse plays Georgetown, you have to remember one thing. It’s not a game for us. We ain’t talking about a game. Not a game. We talkin’ bout practice. THat’s all you are. Practice. PRACTICE! SUCK IT HOYA!

Whether it was whining, or yelling, or whatever, our coach managed to pump his team up to turn a 14 point deficit into a 17 point lead. So yeah, maybe your coach should try a little whining.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
