Now if I stare at that GIF, I can watch Andy's elbow almost as many times as ESPN repeated it.
CAN I HAZ AMINATED LOLCATS NOW?
Tory Jackson is a poon
I was annoyed by Bilas thinking that Andy could have swung low on that play. Notre Dame is a team full of femmes.
On an unrelated note, my little crew thinks that Kentucky would be a good matchup for the Orange, while Kansas would not:

For the first time, I liked Bill Raftery
He was 100% correct in his analysis (omg, he actually had real analysis!) of the elbow/face situation. Bilas was being ridiculous – like Andy is some thug on the court.
Fact is, if they don’t want elbows flying after rebounds, they should probably stop teaching 5 year-olds to do that at basketball camps. I know that’s how I was taught to do it and it wasn’t a rogue counselor – it was every single year at a pretty good camp.
I’m glad Jackson was ok. Thing is, he shouldn’t have been reaching in like that after Andy had clearly secured the ball – that’s the easiest way to get clocked in the face on a basketball court. You’re taught to bring the ball up high, point the elbows out and make some space. Andy didn’t even have his elbows out! Also, it doesn’t help that Jackson comes up to Andy’s shoulder – that’s not really anyone’s fault. If it was Harangoaty (I would have enjoyed seeing this), he would have gotten an elbow to the chest.
Bad call. But what do you expect when Higgins is reffing?
Bilas just didn't make any sense.
He was trying to say Andy should have turned with his elbows low and knew exactly what he was doing swinging high, yet he was still trying to argue that Andy didn’t hit Jackson on purpose and shouldn’t be called for the intentional foul. So he was swinging high to give Jackson a warning? It was an argument that went round-and-round. At least Raftery made sense. I think he even said something along the lines of what you said above about, if Andy isn’t supposed to do this then they should stop teaching it as a fundamental of rebounding.
I will say, around the 50th time they replayed Jackson just crumbling to the ground after taking the elbow to the face, I was actually worried he was seriously injured.
But overall, I like this trio of announcers. While not the epitome of what game calling can be, they do generally focus on the game in front of them, which is surprisingly uncommon, and they aren’t afraid to call each other out when one of them says something ridiculous (for example, the argument over Andrius’ elbow).
Agree with you guys
I love the trio of McDonough-Bilas-Raftery. While I think you COULD make an argument for it being a foul, I thought the call of an INTENTIONAL foul was terrible. Tory Jackson was literally blanketing Andy. Maybe that’s not a foul, but Andy swinging his body with his elbows tight to his torso shouldn’t be one either. It’s not Andy’s fault that he’s 5 inches taller than Jackson (at least). Like you said, if it had been any other Notre Dame player, it would have been a shot to the chest. Not only would that not have been an intentional foul, but that wouldn’t have been a foul at all, because the ND player likely wouldn’t flop with an elbow/arm to the chest.
It was just bad luck is all. Ultimately, not a big deal, as we won, but I thought the announcers weren’t taking the height differential into account enough.
