The consensus before the season was that sitting at 1-2 after our Big Ten stretch would be a good start (and a reasonable one). So we are in good shape. But I actually think we are in better shape than maybe it seems. There is a great trend we have going that, if nurtured, should serve us really well moving forward. Turnovers. Our defense has eight of them so far. That's three more than we had at this point last year. This year, against Minnesota and against Penn State, those turnovers were nice, but rarely led to points. Against NW, however, 2 of the 3 turnovers were turned into points by our offense. If the offense can continue turning 75% (or even 50%) of the turnovers we get into points, we will be in very good shape.
Another positive thing (in my mind) to come out of this weekend: Minnesota. They played Cal real tough. Cal might be better than Penn State (though the rankings don't show it yet), so that loss to Minnesota doesn't feel quite so bad right now.
