Victory! Syracuse Defeats Northwestern 37-34 For Doug Marrone's First Win

Grin, Doug.  Grin all you like.  Your Syracuse Orange are not 0-3.  They're 1-2.  And next week they'll have their easiest test of the season with the chance to go 2-2.  You'll have a clean slate for Big East play.  You'll have made good on the potential and turned it into something tangible.

Grin, ya bastard.  You and your team deserve it.  Syracuse fans deserve it.

It's nice to win.

SO HAPPY

It is awesome to be at the dome for exciting football.

Trying to hit off me is like trying to eat soup with chopsticks.

Such a good feeling

I was able to sleep a little bit more soundly last night. I didn’t agree with everything they did, but it worked out and that’s why they’re professionals and I’m the over-exuberant armchair QB!

Homer: Aw, twenty dollars! I wanted a peanut!
Homer's Brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts!
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services!
Homer: Woo-hoo!

So happy

For the kids on the team – they’ve bought into Marrone, and I’m glad to see that faith was rewarded by finally ending up on the right side of the ledger in a hard fought game.

I’m also happy for all of the current Syracuse students, who have never had a chance to witness what hope feels like when it comes to Syracuse football. I was very fortunate to be a student at Syracuse when Donovan McNabb and Co. were trouncing teams and bowling year in and year out. Last night was an awesome feeling as a fan and alum, and I hope that there are many more of those kinds of games to come. Go Orange.

I completely agree

My favorite part of that game was seeing the pure joy from the players after that game. They worked so hard and they deserved the w

Yeah, it was great

seeing them all line up in front of the band & sing the alma mater after the game. Mike Williams went right over to the student section & high-fived a few people.

ye oulde alma mater chantese thing?

glad to see su get the win. at least they have b een compative in first few games. but isnt this estupido ND thing getting really, really old, the linked arms and singing some idotic drivel that brings to mind a 1937"andy hardy goes to the U" sthick?

Some of us take a lot of pride in the alma mater, and I am very happy to see the football team joining the band in singing it.

Learn the words, and you’re welcome to sing along, too.

Go, fight, and win.

Some of us spent a damn long time working to get that football team on the field at the end of a game singing the Alma Mater with the student section. So shove it.

yeah man give me a break

it’s great seeing the team show some pride like that…. even after the loss to minnesota it was really cool when they stayed on the field and sang it. and the whole dome loved it.

Great game!

You put it best, Sean, by pointing out the difference between 1-2 and 0-3. That’s Billy Fuccillo huge right there. This team isn’t done winning, either. I’ve got a good feeling about the rest of the season.

Go, fight, and win.

secondary?

really gonna have to make some strides in the near future..for more wins.. but glad to see a exciting win, thats what the adminstration is hoping for" thats entertainment".. and lets hope that ridiculos clone nfl west coast offense crapola never comes back. cinci, florida, ucla, et al, its amazing how many teams are playing some form of the run or pass opton now. yesterday, it seemed like every 3rd play or less in some games, the word opton".. and i believe that kid in place of grothe was a highly recruited dual threat" kid from right in florida natually. gotta be great when your state pretty much supplies all the starters on your entire team, weather seminoles, gators, south florida or miami.. along with fau, central florida, et a l..

Plus it’s homecoming and the first Big East game, so there should be a great crowd. With (knock on wood) the momentum of two wins going into it, I definitely think it looks winnable.

Go, fight, and win.

some USF fan on twitter

Is trying to tell me that BJ Daniels is their savor as a backup QB (red shirt freshman) and that Daniels is clearly better than Grothe ever was. Of course, he’s gauging this off of Daniels’ performance against Charleston Southern. Florida State is going to destroy them this week.

awesome win

I was watching the game at a bar (and was the only ‘Cuse fan in attendance) and a guy comes up and asks me if I know who Ernie Davis is (was). He was in the midst of a bar crawl so that may somewhat excuse him but people like that bug me. Like I wouldn’t be a real fan if I didn’t know who he was (of course I do though!) Anyways… I digress – unfortunately they moved on before the end of the game!

You’re a girl! You can’t be a real sports fan! Or smart enough to have watched the major motion picture about the team that you obviously only support to impress men!
