College Football Season = Gambling Season
Ed. Note: This is the first of a weekly series by TNIAAM "personality" Cody K. And of course, everything he mentions below is for fun and "widgets"
Greetings, ya'll. As we discussed in this post, this season I will make a mockery of gambling on college football and in the process do my best to empty out my bodog account. I'll win some, I'll lost a lot more, and I will have a fun time in the process. It's totally going to be kind of like this:
2 For The Money (via WimAbsoluut)
(Editor's note: Not really exactly like this; I likely won't start a feud with Alpa Chino)
Additionally, I will be licking my wounds each Sunday and Monday as I read through comments of people telling me things like, "I told you so" and maybe some "you are a total retard" and some other compliments like that.
(this will be so much fun you will feel like you are sitting in the MGM Sports book with me! On a related note, the MGM is a GREAT Sports book. A few recommendations: get there early-much earlier than you would think-to get a good seat, try to stay away from too many of the 20 oz. "beer specials" for $4, and do not, REPEAT DO NOT start gambling on horses - trust me, bad idea. Save that for August afternoons in Saratoga).
Anyway, the game plan I've discussed with Troy is to pick three-four games per weekend:
- The Syracuse game (keep in mind that Syracuse has a few bye weeks this season - so on weeks when the almighty Orange is idle, I'll pick the best Saturday Marquee match-up in the Big East
- One "upset" of the week (which will most of the time be a Top 25 game, but could just as likely be a random Pac-10 game)
- One "Big Game" of the week, which will be a marquee match-up occurs that weekend, ie two Top-25 teams squaring off
- Miscellaneous Big East related match-ups
Along the way I will also discuss my useless gambling philosophies. And lastly I will be betting on each game on my bodog account, so I'll be putting $$ where my mouth is. First post will go up Thursday with this weekends game; including the Syracuse game! I'm fired up.

Man, I'm actually excited about this and I don't gamble.
Hoping to learn something, at the very least, like maybe some of the lingo so I can at least talk gambling with my addict friends.
Just create a bodog account
and throw some money in there? I could do that. They do other sports too right? Do you pay taxes on that?
By the way, its up to 7 at a lot of sites
Minnesota at Syracuse should get some good action on Saturday. The line was Minnesota -6 ½ to -7 depending on the sportsbook.
Newsday gives us 7
Minnesota (0-0) at Syracuse (0-0), noon Eastern
Line: Minnesota by 7.
Series Record: Tied 1-1-0.
Last Meeting: 1996, Minnesota 35-33.
Syracuse: The Orange have a new head coach in Doug Marrone, a former player two decades ago when the Orange were a team to be reckoned with. His job isn’t easy: Syracuse went 10-37 over the past four years under Greg Robinson, including the first two 10-loss seasons in school history, and Marrone aims to restore the team’s luster. He’s banking on Duke-point-guard-turned-Syracuse-quarterback Greg Paulus, who was named the starter despite never having thrown a pass in college and having just one year of eligibility remaining. Paulus was a record-setting quarterback in high school but chose to play basketball at Duke.
Getting off to a good start is imperative for the Orange.
Minnesota: With tough home games looming against Air Force and No. 12 California as the Gophers open their new stadium on campus, this is a critical game for them to get off to a good start if they want to go back to a bowl.
Syracuse QB Greg Paulus against the Minnesota defense. The Orange’s offensive line has been porous the past four years — it allowed 54 sacks two years ago. It will have to offer enough protection to at least give Paulus a chance to succeed.
The Gophers have nine seniors starting on defense and appear much stronger than the unit that gave up more yards than any other team in the college football’s top division two years ago.
Minnesota: RB Duane Bennett. He was to be the featured runner last fall, but he wrecked his knee last September, needed season-ending surgery and took a medical redshirt. Bennett is back as the starter, but fellow sophomore DeLeon Eskridge and freshman Kevin Whaley are also expected to share the carries.
Syracuse: RB Delone Carter. The 2005 Mr. Ohio Football has made a complete recovery from a dislocated hip suffered in April 2007. He sat out that season and played in only five games a year ago but turned a lot of heads in preseason camp. If he can run with the abandon he displayed as a freshman, that should ease the burden on Paulus.
Dont get down on Forrest, no one has moves like Anderson Silva.
Do it, do it!!
It’s super easy, just go to bodog.com and create an account. email me @ cokushner at yahoo com if you decide to do it and I will set you up.
Gambling Rules
You never bet on a game involving your team. Doesn’t matter if it’s moneyline, spread, o/u, whatever. You just don’t do it.
Normally I agree....
But watch this:

Gambling on Artie Lange’s favorite team, the NY Giants, worked out pretty well for him a few yrs ago!
personally
I won’t bet my team; but sometimes if you’re going to, then bet against your team (unless it’s an easy win). To quote the great marginally acceptable, Bud Poliquin, “it’s true that the pessimist has the satisfaction of either being always right or sometimes pleasantly surprised”.
Winning money can be a good consolation prize to watching your team lose (depending on the amount, of course).
