Begun, The Forde War Has

Photo

Pat Forde's Twitterfeed around the 2nd quarter of the SU-Penn State game on Saturday:

Florida finally waking up. And Cuse is gonna get shut out.

Watching Syracuse butcher clock management. Orange have enough problems without doing this, too.

Wow. Syracuse. Painful red zone sequence.

But a Nice drive by the Orange. Nearly made me eat my proclamation of a shuout.

Paulus scramble was brutal. Dropped pass in end zone was worse.

As you can imagine, the Cuse Twitterati was less than pleased with Patrick's thoughts on the matter.

Pat Forde's Twitterfeed around 4:30pm EST on Saturday:

It's come to my attention that the Syracuse faithful (I guess that's plural) took vindictive glee at the Orange avoiding the shutout vs. PSU

Congrats to the Orange for that, making my prediction wrong. Next time, Cuse, try puffing up over something more than a TD in final 5 mins.

Like an actual victory.

Pat, you called down the thunder, well now you've got it.  Run, you cur... RUN! Tell all the other curs the LAW'S coming! You tell 'em I'M coming... and Cuse's coming with me, you hear?! CUSE'S COMING WITH ME!!!

wow..........

guys he is actually spot on with this one.Can you honestly say that last drive before the half was pretty? The play calling was uncreative, if not predictable and paulus just didnt look that good today.Though, i will admit it was an improvement over last years penn state game, just remeber they couldnt run the ball against akron either.

What is with this guy?

Why is he constantly dissing the Orange? Does he really have nothing better to do than kick a team while they are down? He is heading into Gottlieb hate-territory.

by SyraJosh on Sep 13, 2009 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

why must we hate the truth?

last year it was lee corso for trashing us(i know lee corso is fun to hate). Gottlieb, all he does is give good observations, though its usually what we dont want to hear. Now forde? I know the truth hurts, but it doesnt change the fact that he is right.

by 86trash on Sep 13, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Forde's observations may technically be honest.

But he doesn’t have to be a douchebag about it. And make no mistake, he is being a douchebag about it. Success for us is relative right now, but he chooses to ignore that and pretend like we should be beating or staying in step with Penn State to be considered improved.

by NOLACuse on Sep 13, 2009 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I mean his job isn’t just big east football or big 10 football, but he had like 8 tweets (all negative about the orange) regarding a rather uneventful game that was only on the Big 10 network, which meant most people couldn’t watch it.

If he was paying attention to the game, he might have mentioned the goal line stand and Syracuse’s front 7 on defense actually playing like a BCS conference team for the first time in years.

Or better yet, said something positive about PSU because the fact of the matter is that they have alot of talent and should be considered one of elite teams in the country.

by Rocket Ship Science on Sep 13, 2009 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

it just seems .........

That we as cusians, find it easy to constantly dismiss someone as a douchebag when they express opinions we dont agree with. Like you said “sucess is relative for us right now”
How good is Minnesota(I think they finish .500 or worse in the big ten), how good is Penn St? We dont know, they struggled running against Akron and didnt look like a top 10 team in either game. Instant gratifacation, we need to believe Minn and Penn St are great teams, so we can believe we are improving. Fact is we dont know how good they are(could end up being as low as a forth place team in big ten).
I think, he sees all this talk of Cuse being on the right track and we are improving, and he just doesnt believe it yet.Sometimes it is fun to put an over-optimistic person or persons in their place, because they get ahead of themselves.NEWS FLASH, we are the annoying over-optimistic people right now.I just wish we werent, lol.

by 86trash on Sep 13, 2009 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions

So you honestly don't believe that Penn State is an elite team?

They may not play for the title, but if you think they are a pushover team (or might be one) you are going to the other extreme of pessimism. Penn State’s offense has playmakers with near-SEC speed and linebackers we can only dream of right now. They finish 1 or 2 in the Big Ten. 3 if the wheels come off.

We aren’t calling him a douche because he disagrees with us. We are calling him a douche because he is. A good number of his comments pertaining to Paulus and, this past weekend, SU in general seem to have a hint of joy at both the suggestion and reality of failure. Considering how early on he made his shutout prediction, he should have acknowledged that 1)he jumped the gun on that one and 2) our defense was playing well enough to give us chances to score. They did have three turnovers after all. Did he mention those? Instead of those things, he simply gets pissy that we said anything about him being wrong. A first year coach and a first year QB (esp this one) against a Top 5 team is not the situation to wait for a victory before seeing positives. If we choose to be please or slightly reassured with a solid defensive effort and a non-shutout, there isn’t anything wrong with that. It’s incredibly reasonable in fact and to imply otherwise is douchey.

Well...

I think i figured out who all the trolls on the godforsaken Syracuse.com football forum is. Pat Forde.

forde got rejected when he applied to newhouse?

it's on Wikipedia so it must be true:

“Pat Forde is a senior sports columnist for ESPN.com who specializes in the coverage of horse racing and college sports, mainly NCAA Division I Football and Men’s Basketball.

Besides his columns on ESPN’s front page, Forde also writes a weekly “Forde Yard Dash” during the NCAA football regular season, featuring 40 mentions of college football from the previous week, as well as a weekly “Dashette”, a female model or celebrity that has a name ending with a vowel. During the NCAA basketball regular season this column turns into “Forde Minutes” following the same premise as the Dash.

Forde’s writing for ESPN is sometimes perceived as controversial, particularly in the strong value judgments he casts on individuals and athletic programs. In a December 2007 column following the hiring of Bobby Petrino as the head football coach at the University of Arkansas, Forde called Petrino a “disingenuous drifter” and warned Razorback fans that any good will Petrino showed toward them would only be “the latest pack of lies in a career full of them.”1

Before he went to ESPN, Forde was a sportswriter at the The Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY.

He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Missouri.

Pat is a graduate of the University of Missouri, but only after being turned down by not only Syracuse University but also Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY."

I think the main point of contention for me is the smarmy, self aggrandizing way Forde goes about this. Is he accurate in his “tweets” of SU’s offense and their play at times? Sure, I suppose so. But, more often than not, the message gets lost in the delivery. Timing and delivery is everything in communication, and the timing of Forde hammering SU is off. I think the time to bash the Orange has come and gone. This is CLEARLY not the same team it has been over the past few years.

And for those of you who want to say, “Why get mad? Can’t handle the truth?” and the like, I say to you — who’s fucking side are you on, anyway??? Who LIKES hearing or reading these types of things about their team or school? No one. So to be fair….No, I am not mad. And the truth does, in fact, hurt sometimes. But, I also realize that the truth is somewhere in between what that jackass Forde says/writes and the way I feel about the Syracuse Football team in general. But that also does not mean that I have to take what he says lying down or allow someone to smear SU’s effort because they feel like doing so. Facts are facts. And the fact is that Syracuse played a Top10 team on the road and got beat.

All that matters at the end of the day are Wins and Losses. The more Syracuse wins, the less that cock-knock has to say. And, in any case — fuck him. Just don’t read his column. Remember, this guy is the biggest Ty Willingham apologist out there. Even when that guy was desecrating what used to be a big time program at Washington, Forde was still writing about how Notre Dame mistreated him. Apparently, he has a soft spot for fired coaches. Maybe he is holding a grudge since Greggers got the ax. Who knows. And frankly, who gives a shit?!? Then again, maybe he’s just a douche….

I'm shocked Pat even watched the game

I thought he’d be focused on an intense rivalry like Seton Hall – Rutgers.

by Russianator on Sep 14, 2009 9:41 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed

After all that’s the #1 Rivalry in all of college hoops. It just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? Duke-UNC, Rutgers-Seton Hall, etc.

Sounds like it's up there with Penn State-Iowa

… and Baylor-Texas A&M. Truly big-time rivalries.

by drothgery on Sep 14, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

that is what makes his timing perfect.....

we have let him hear it over the rivalry list

Who is Pat Forde?

I never heard of him til I saw the link leads to ESPN. Has he been any commercial or gameday cast? No. I have him above the Hilltoppers mascot but below the color commentator ("That’s Big Air!!!) for the X Games.
