The Re-Melo-Ing Of Syracuse Basketball Nears

Back on July 10th, D.A. over at Orange Fizz (where hyperlinks are forbidden!!!) spoke with Adam Ross, high school coach of one Fabricio De Melo.  Ross mentioned that Melo, one of the most highly-touted recruits in the 2010 class, has whittled his list down to four schools and Syracuse was among them (scroll down a little more than halfway to see the article):

"He's basically down to four schools now. Those being Louisville, Syracuse, UConn and Florida State. There are a bunch of other schools that he has not visited. They're not totally out of the question. But right now we're spending a lot of time focusing on those four schools that he visited."

Melo was on-hand for Syracuse's win over Stephen F. Austin the NCAA Tournament and by all accounts had a great visit to SU a couple months back.

Now comes word that a final decision is expected from Fab next week and that "the consensus among AAU coaches and recruiting analysts is that Melo is heavily leaning toward Syracuse."  Giddy the f*** up.

Why should you be so concerned about this 7-foot, 267 pound Brazilian?  As D.A. puts it, "What if [Hasheem] Thabeet added 25 pounds, a handful of low-post moves and a smooth 20-foot jumper?"  I want to go to there.

Nice.

Also, Sagemont HS is about a 10-15 minute drive from where I live. May have to do a little scouting next season if he decides to head up to Syracuse…

or

some serious recruiting in the next week. Perhaps an orange range rover in front of his house?

Fine, but when the NCAA comes calling, you’re the one getting blamed for the tournament ban.

unfortunately

i bet he goes to the UConvicts. They have a history of turning out big men.

the linked article to today’s Post-Standard has the final four teams as being: SU, L’Ville, Florida, and Miami. It sounds like UConn and Florida State are no longer in the running. Other reports say it’s really down to us and Louisville.

If he doesn’t come to Syracuse, then I’d much rather he go to a school outside of the Big East.

Fuck yes!

Also, nice 30 Rock quote. I also want to go to there.

Will he also replicate Thabeet's amazing ability

To not get called for body checks on 2/3rds of his blocks? That would be helpful.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
