That's Okay, We'd Rather Play At CitiField Instead Anyway

According to the Times-Record's Sal Interdonato, Army will announce their opponents for the 2012 and 2014 football games at Yankees Stadium tomorrow.  Neither of them will be Syracuse:

Army will play a college football game against Air Force in 2012 at Yankee Stadium, the Times Herald-Record has learned....Army will also play Rutgers in 2011 and Boston College in 2014 at Yankee Stadium, according to a source.

Has anyone seen DOCTOR Gross?  Seriously, take his belt and shoelaces and try to keep him inside for the next 48 hours.

Though, there is one line of Interdonato's article that gives a little pause.  He says that the Yankees are going to have a press conference tomorrow "to announce more college football games, including Army home games."  Does that mean there will be games scheduled that don't include Army?  And if so, would that be what SU has up their sleeve?  I guess we'll know soon enough.

In the meantime...wow...Boston College gets a game in New York City over Syracuse.  I am extremely interested to know the details on how that came to pass.  It can't possibly be because Syracuse said no, so there has to be another reason.  Whether you agree or not with this being a good move for the program, you can't help but think this looks very bad for New York's College Team.

Again, we may find out that SU has their own deal in the works.  And there's also that Notre Dame-Meadowlands deal that is supposed to be happening.  So I'm guessing that even if we don't hear Syracuse's name called during the press conference tomorrow, we'll hear from the SU Athletics department about the alternative or explanation shortly thereafter.  Right?  Yes?  Cause otherwise, it just doesn't look very good.

H/T: Bleed Scarlet

Update: Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick cryptically throws out that the Irish still have yet to announce their big neutral-site games for 2011 and 2012 but he is "hopeful to be able to announce at least one and maybe both by the start of the season."  Could one of them by the Syracuse game in East Rutherford? H/T again to Bleed Scarlet, killin' it.

Eff it.

Those guys need Yankees Stadium to get the chance to play in a venue that big once a season. We play in a top tier venue every home game.

Citi Field would be great

much closer to home for me…

This is bullshit.

If we aren’t part of that press conference, things are just messed up. I can’t wait for the 2010’s when we are ranked and the talk of the town but the Yankees have trouble selling out these games. (Wanton optimism? Maybe, but f*k it.) I’m sure New Yorkers are just dying to pay high ticket prices so they can see a team from Boston disembowel a team from New York. Smooth move.

Why is this a big deal?

We get a normal amount of actual home games now…

Because

Think about DOC Gross and what he wants. I guarantee you a football game in Yankee Stadium is at or near the top of his list. to not be a part of this must be killing him…unless he’s got something else up his sleeve.

We might have had a normal amount anyway.

Army would probably be the home team in the Yankee Stadium game. This just seems like a slap in the face to not get one of these games being “New York’s College Team”. Sure it’s a marketing gimmick, but it used to be true.

Please, no ND in 2012

Adding ND to the 2012 schedule is basically counting on them to continue to suck. We already have three BCS teams on the 2012 schedule, one of which is a hyper-elite program we have almost no chance of beating. We’re not USC. We shouldn’t be playing four BCS/ND teams out of conference.
