Get To Know Your Orange Man - #91 LB Brandon Sharpe

Photo

Player: Brandon Sharpe

Number: #91

Position:Linebacker

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'2"

Weight:220

Hometown: Virginia Beach, Va.

High School: Ocean Lakes High School

Major: N/A

2009 Projections: Brandon is currently fourth on the depth chart at Strongside Linebacker spot.  Young players in front of him though (1 junior and 2 sophs) so there's a possibility of him moving up.  Or redshirting.  Could go either way...

How'd He Get Here: We almost didn't.  Brandon arned 2008 All-Beach District First Team, All-Tidewater Second Team and All-Region Second Team honors after a season in which he recorded 70 tackles, forced three fumbles and set his high school record with 16 sacks.  Brandon verbally committed to Louisville and was set to join high school teammate Shamarko Thomas there.  Then Shamarko renegged and committed to SU.  And so, Brandon followed suit and joined  Shamarko at SU as well.  Suck on that, Cardinals.

Star-divide

What did Scout/Rivals Say?: Rivals said Brandon was a two-star recruit and Scout agreed with them.

Money Quote: None from Sharpe but SU DC Scott Shafter has high praise for Sharpe and the other SU freshman on Team USA: "Brandon (Sharpe), Phillip (Thomas) and Shamarko (Thomas) all bring speed and toughness...They are athletic kids who are playmakers."

Links Of Wonder: Brandon's Team USA profile.  He's playing for the Junior National Team as it takes on multiple nations in the FAF Junior World Championship.

What Does Marrone Think?: "He was someone who was committed to another university who we were able to sway and convince that this is the best school for him. He's someone with a lot of range who can run. He played defensive end. We're moving him to linebacker. We're looking for great things out of Brandon."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Brandon's senior season at Ocean Lakes was the first full season of organized football he had played since the 9th grade.  Impressive...and a little scary.  Also, Brandon was born in 1990.  Feel free to feel old at any time.

Let Me Get a Good Look At You:Brandon doing his thing (#9 a.k.a. The One Hurting People)
