Why Didn't Someone Tell Me We Needed Cornerbacks So Badly
Lots of position jumped out in the spring as red flags for SU football. Perhaps because there was so much attention of offensive line, kicking and linebacker that we didn't stop to realize that our defensive backfield needed some help. The other day Doug Marrone brought in California JUCO DB Derek Hines to battle for a spot in the starting line-up. Apparently he bought California JUCO DB's in bulk...cause he got another one today:
Cornerbacks on the Syracuse University football team apparently will have some more competition when preseason camp commences in August. John Mark Henderson (5-11, 195), a two-year starter at CB for City College of San Francisco, is apparently signing the dotted line with the Orange.
Like Hines, Henderson has three years of eligibility to play two seasons for the Orange (if that makes sense). The 5'11", 195 corner was recruited by some big schools, including Kansas State, but issues about college credits plagued the process. I'm guessing he's cleared it up. I'd read all about it but I don't have access to the article.
Check Henderson out in this video, if you can figure out where he is half the time:

yeah, that is great.. cause they have like 107? jucos in ca, and most of them play football at a high level. not just k state, but also even cal berkley, u florida, lots of solid schools like to recruit several juco players every year. and its a good shot, they are mature, usually have at that time, no grade, behavoire problems, and have got like at least 1-2 years of added coaching and growth physically and emoitionally. win win situation. i hate to us the juice/OJ as a example, but he went school prior to usc, at sf comm college. i think if we can regain recruits in ny, eastern pa, jersey, md, and can get like say 3-4 kids from fla every year, gonna be on the way back. could not help but notice, seems like majority of drop back qbs come from CA, but the leading hs dual threat" opton kids are coming from all over texas..
He seems to have pretty good speed.
I know his competition isn’t stellar, but it looks like he is a fast kid. Which would only reinforce a discussion that was had here a while back about Marrone’s apparent love of speed. More competition the better; it’s not like we had some dominant secondary anyway.
JUCO
is the way to go for Doug right now. He is going to have so many open roster spots, but you dont want to have one huge class next year of all 4 year guys, it screws up your recruiting cycle pretty bad. 40 one year then 15 guy classes for the next 4?
Way to go Doug.
