And Here's The Kicker...
There were a lot of areas that Doug Marrone saw the need for improvement this spring but none more pressing that the kicking game. To say that he was disappointed with the only in-house kicker, freshman Austin Wallis, would be an understatement. Back on April 2nd, here's his response to a question about how the placekicking was going:
Not what we need.
So when you don't have what you need, what do you do? You go out and get what you need. Enter Shane Raupers. Raupers comes to us from Athens High School in Pennsylvania. He made the Class AA Second Team last year but despite receiving some interest from BC, Penn State and Syracuse, never got an offer.
In 2008,. Shane made 24 of25 PATs and 4 of 5 FGs as well as kicking 28 touchbacks. His all-time long is 47. Shane also handled punting, quarterback and some cornerback duties for Athens.
Get mesmerized by Raupers mighty leg below:
You can also watch him throw the pigskin and handle an offense here. Not that he'll need that in college...we think.

He doesn't have
the magnificent physique of Patrick Shadle (nh), but I think he would help out the team.

Hm
Not bad. Though that 47 yarder seemed to just squeak by; hopefully he has a stronger leg than that. And his punting won’t be needed hopefully, which is probably best since he seemed to have a pretty slow release.
slow on FGs also
he’s not moving until the holder has the ball secured. he needs to be moving on the snap at the next level. easy adjustment to make though. his follow thru also takes him to the left quite a bit on some attempts but as long as the ball is still going thru the posts it’s ok.
kickoffs were from the 40
granted he put a few thru the endzone, but from the 40 getting the ball in the endzone isn’t spectaclar
you realize that a kickoff in college is from the 35?
So 5 yards deep in the endzone really isn’t that bad…
I second the motion.
Although, I’m guessing college coaches don’t have a problem with it. Might even prefer it.
