Syracuse Earns Their Golden Shower
What? The team showered after the game, didn't they? In the Golden Eagles' locker room. And they earned that shower by beating Marquette 86-79 in overtime. What's the big deal?
WAER's Ian Smith breaks down the gist of it:
The Orange got a quality Big East road win as Syracuse downed the Golden Eagles of Marquette in overtime, 86-79. The dynamic duo of Jonny Flynn and Andy Rautins led all Orange scorers with 24 and 20 points respectively, and Rick Jackson had arguably his best game of the season contributing 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
The Orange fended off a 10-0 second half run from Buzz Williams' Golden Eagles, as Jim Boeheim's crew shot 56% from the field and escaped with the victory in overtime.
Jonny Flynn reclaimed his rightful spot as the heart and soul of the Orange and Donna Ditota found that almost everyone else involved found this to be the case as well:
His two free throws at 13 seconds that all but sealed the SU deal at 84-79.
"He's awfully good," Marquette coach Buzz Williams said. "He's a talented, talented player. ... And when it was time to get one, he was going to get one. He's hard to guard.""This is the Jonny Flynn we love to see, we look forward to seeing every game," Rautins said. "We know what he's capable of. When he plays outstanding like that, there's not many teams that can beat us."
And so the Orange can finally do what Lady GaGa has been telling them to do all along...just dance. The win over Marquette was their first win over one of the currently-ranked Big East teams and a great final marquee win to add to the collection alongside Florida, Kansas and Memphis.
They'll start with the "little" dance, the Big East Tournament, first. The 23-8 (11-7) Orange play at the sixth seed and await the winner of the South Florida-Seton Hall game for a 9pm EST tip on Wednesday. If they win there, they're likely looking at a match-up with Louisville (although I could be wrong, depending on tie-breakers).
Finally, huge H/T to the Cuse Twitterati who made today a fun one. Between Donna & Mike's updates, HoyaSuxa's screwball antics and everyone else's input, in-game Twittering is quickly becoming something for the cool kids. Well...maybe not. But I like it.
Oh and it's just nice to see tha, if Eric Devendorf does go pro, the younger players are ready to step up and hold the homoerotic mantle high.

I wish
I would have manned up and actually went to that game now. I based my decision not to go on the fact that they were shitting the bed on the road vs. good Big East teams. There’s always next year, when they come to DePaul (that should be fun and more convenient). This made my weekend for sure, feels so good to dance again.
The
Golden Shower headline, is maybe his greatest headline ever.
Whitest Kids you know
Great skit by that comedy group referencing the golden shower.

Whitest Kids You Know, did Greggers have kids who made a tv show? Or have I spent too much time watching Scrubs, Chuck and The Office that I missed a new show?
They are a sketch and improv comedy group
Their stuff is all online. Just search Whitest Kids U Know. There is some pretty hilarious, and inappropriate stuff to find.

After we’re done dispatching the USF/Seton Hall winner (9 p.m. Wednesday), we’d get UConn in the quarters (9 p.m. Thursday). Louisville took the Big East while Pitt finished 2nd.
You've gotta hand it to Kris
He can make crazy-weird faces with the best of em on this squad.
Syracuse '12
I don’t think we can get to a 4 seed without winning the BE Tournament, or at least getting to the final. We’re probably a high 6, might be able to make it to a 5 with a win and at least a close game against UConn, but a 4 is a lot to ask for.
Joe Lunardi
made a guest appearance on CitrusTV’s ’Cuse Countdown this weekend and said definitely a three seed if SU wins the Big East Tournament.

If we win the BE Tournament, we’ll have beaten (likely) UConn, then Pitt, then Louisville. I’m figuring on a 6 seed if we lose against USF/Seton Hall or if we win that and lose to UConn, a 5 if we can beat UConn but lose in the semis, a 4 if we make it to the finals and lose, and a 3 if we win the tournament.
Any chance we can bring back GMac and let him hit last second 3s in every round of the tournament?
to get a five seed
SU needs to beat Seton Hall and then play UConn tough win or lose. That should earn them a five, maybe the first six.

If
we won the Big East Tourney we would prolly be a 3 seed. Anybody coming out of the Big East as champions is def getting big respect. If we beat SH/USF and then Uconn , I could def see us getting a 4 seed.
Please do not get a 4 or 5 seed
Last time we were a 4 seed didn’t we lose to Vermont? I ask because I was at that game with a colleague/UVM alum and ended up in all orange in the UVM Student Section. That was painful to walk out of… I broke my cell phone leaving that game.
Also, 12 seeds historically get hot, and if there’s one thing that’ll kill us, it’s a hot shooting team.

i said 4 because we just finished 6th in the best league in the country (going to have 2 1seeds) and were 16-1 outside of it with road wins over memphis and kansas (sort of) which look really good right now.
Yeah but SU only has two good
wins in conference. WVU and Marquette. That is not going to be enough to jump to the 4 line. Not when teams like Missouri have wins over Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma, Xavier has wins over Missouri, LSU and Memphis and Washington out right won the Pac 10.
I agree with Jameson that they will either be the last 5 or the 1st 6 outside of a huge Big East run. I think you could actually put the 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s in a bag and just pick randomly. Thats how close they are. I would rather see SU as a 6 because all the 3s are beatable and it keeps them out of a number one seed’s quadrant.
According to Lunardi on the new Bracketology...
…we have a 20% chance of earning a 4 seed. Lunardi says that “A trip to the Big East semifinals opens up the path to a protected [top 4] seeding”
