Harris - "I'm going to stick it out"

From The Daily Orange Sports Blog

This is what i'm talking about.  He wants to finish what he started.  I hope Flynn and Devo come back also.  If they do, this team could be tops in the nation next year.  All last season I was saying give these guys 2 years and they can be national champs.  That got set back a little with Donte Greene leaving for the NBA, but I think we can win it all next year if we step up our defense.  Other than the first half of last nights game, we've been playing our best ball all year recently and lets hope we can keep this up and have a good Big East Tournament this year and get a good seed in the tourney.

I'm feeling

Really optimistic about next year

Devo

I really get the feeling he’s not coming back. I don’t have any inside info, but just a hunch. Unlike Harris, he’ll have his degree already and he might just be over playing college basketball.

Worst Case Scenario

Let’s say all three (Jonny, Paul, Eric) leave — Devo and Paul both have kids, why wouldn’t they go play ball in Europe to make cash to support their families?? — and it’s not like we’re looking at a team that’s .going to finish at the bottom of the Big East. Far from that. Instead of a team that with those three could contend for the conference title, you’re looking at a middle of the pack squad much like this year. Keep in mind, many other Big East schools are losing key seniors, so the Pitt’s, UConn’s, Marquette’s and Nova’s will come back to the pack a little bit.

SU still has major size down low next year in Rick and AO, a top shooter in Rautins, a supposed solid swing-man in Wes Johnson, not to mention another very good recruiting class. Even without Jonny, Eric, and Paul, it’s a good basketball team (and probably not as selfish and undisciplined)

dude we have one commit next year.

Granted, Triche is nasty, but the class to watch is in 2010 with Waiters, Fair, and Kieta

Pretty much the first thing I plan on writing about once the season is over will be about how the Big East is probably going to be pretty awful next year. Like you said, Pitt, UConn, Marquette, Villanova, Providence, and Notre Dame will all be taking major steps backwards while few teams will be going forward. So even if SU loses Flynn or Devendorf or both, I would pick SU second in the conference behind Louisville next season.

Harris staying

Is huge. He’s an energy guy, and if Flynn and Devo leave, he’ll be the unquestioned leader of the team, while getting a little help from Rautins and Onuaku. If he can tolerate another year of Jim Boeheim tongue lashings, then we can all get behind him (no homo).

What else is he going to say at this point though? The regular season isn’t over, does anyone expect him or any player to say they plan to go pro right now?

I’ll believe it if he says it again in mid-April. Right now, it’s nothing more than idle chatter to me.

Nah, I don’t buy that. There’s no reason to flatly deny that he’s going pro if he weren’t serious. If he was really conisdering it, why not just play coy like Jonny and give the standard non-answer of, “I’m not even thinking about that right now. I’m just totally focused on this season and helping out my team”?

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
