Old SU photo on Deadspin

Looking through my Google Reader, this photo jumped out at me:

via cache.gawker.com

It's from a post about CBS Sports Mobile offering an app to watch the NCAAs.

But more importantly, that's Hak dunking on some UConn fool. And is that Craig Forth looking on jealously at Warrick's ability to make his body leave the ground?

I don't know what game this is for sure (if it's the BET or a regular season matchup -- I'm pretty sure the match-up rankings are completely made up), but I do know that it's Emeka Okafor about to get dunked on, and that's Charlie Villanueva (#3) on the right background area. So my best guess is that this is the '03-'04 season, which I believe is the only year Charlie and Emeka played together.

It just struck me as completely random for a possibly 5 year old photo to show up on Deadspin and thought it might spark a comment or two on here.

That was

the February 2nd, 2004 game in a regular season game in Storrs, CT that we lost 84-56. Luckly we won in the Carrier Dome later that season 67-56 when Okafor was out with a back injury. The point was moot however beacuse they obviously ended up moving on and winning another NCAA Championship that season.

Well, that sort of makes me less excited about the photo.

Though it just occurred to me to look at the arena they were in, which is clearly neither the Dome or MSG, so it must be Storrs.

Nice work!

Not in Storrs

That’s definitely the HCC (XL Center). I was at that game. I was sitting on the floor to Hakim’s immediate right.
