LOST: Episode5. Discuss?
I know I'm not the only LOST fan on here. Even our humble host is clearly a fan of LOST. Did you watch episode 5 of this season yet? Are you as confused as the rest of the viewing audience?
It's not Syracuse related, but if you care, maybe we can discuss it here in the comments? If so, then obviously SPOILERS BELOW.
Actually, maybe Doc Jensen at EW.com can get this discussion started.

Do you like this story?

Yeah, that is the latest episode.
It was good, but man this time travel stuff makes me feel like the show could go just about anywhere now.
Will the island still be shifting in time now that Locke has moved the wheel? Is the wheel being stuck the reason they’ve been jumping through time?
Yeah, I'm thinking that too.
I think it was Daniel that mentioned the nose bleeds are happening to the people that have been on the island for a long period of time. Or at least that was his theory.
So that explains Charlotte now since she was born and grew up on the island. And Juliet has been on the island for many years. But what about Sawyer and the rest of the left-behind Losties getting nose bleeds. And why not Faraday, who apparently told Charlotte years ago to never come back to the island?
Absolutely
That’s why his nose started bleeding next.

Here's one thing...
Does anyone else notice that the Faraday in this season is totally different than the Faraday from last season? Last season’s Faraday was a ball of ticks and kind off his rocker. This season’s Faraday is “cocksure”, at least he was when all the shit started going down.
I think This Faraday did something to Old Faraday when the time travel started and he took over. We know Faraday’s been jumping through time and he’s been to the island at many times (discovery of the time portal area, warning Charlotte, etc).
Yeah, I've noticed that too.
I wasn’t sure if it was just a decision they made about how to play the character, or if it’s somehow party of the story.
I think that scene at the beginning of the season
of him in the tunnel is going to end up being the big scene at the END of the season as well.
I think he’s there to destroy the anomoly and “close the loop”
Another thing...
If Ms. Hawking is Faraday’s Mother and Faraday is bankrolled by Widmore, who knows she’s his mother, and Ben is working with Ms. Hawking, and Ben and Widmore are enemies….WTF?!?!?!?!
This is why the show is great...
and I’m really happy they know this is the 2nd to last season because they know exactly how long they have to arc out the story.
Indeed. I was very happy when they decided on a set time to be done with this show.
For the exact same reasons. It also help me feel better that the writers actually know where they’re going with this and not just stringing us along as long as they can.
Things I still want to know
Is Widmore Faraday’s Dad?
Seriously, the four-toed statue. WTF?
Alpert, how old is that dude?
Was Locke supposed to be on the island when he was young or was Locke NEVER supposed to be on the island?
You've got questions, I've got [some] answers
(1) Yes, I’d say almost definitely.
(2) No clue!
(3) As Juliet says: O-L-D
(4) I think never. I think his purpose in life is sacrifice himself for the good of the island. So…think of him as sort of a cog in the wheel of the machine that “operates” the island (ie keeps the island safe, away from harm, moving throughout time, etc.)
2) The 4 toed foot, could be a reference to Alexandria, and given the hieroglyphics on the temple Wednesday night.
Jeremy Bentham
Don’t forget Locke’s new name, in reference to the creepy real life Bentham who was all about spying on people
yeah
If you ever get bored, read up on the Panopticon – which is the prison developed by Bentham.
And if you get REALLY bored, read up on Foucault. Specifically Foucault’s pendulum (which is the swinging device used by the lovely Ms Hawking) and the research and work he did on light diffusion (think back to Farraday’s comments last season on how “the light scatters differently here”
PS: Claire is dead
She’s a walking apparition. No way she survived the rocket launcher blast last season unscathed.
Walt
I kept wondering before the season if Walt was going to have to come back to. I know he was sent home and all but, technically he’s someone who left the island and is still alive. I just hope they eventually tie in what Walt’s purpose was/is and don’t just forget about him for the sake of the show’s casting.
When they wrote this show for season 1
did they have a story written out to the end or are they making it up as they go along and tying it into things that have happened already?
They claim they had the story all along
An outline, and they write the stories as they go. But I’m not sure I believe that.
They say they had a general idea for the ending
but obviously left a ton of things open to consideration given the unsure timeframe, casting decisions, etc.

Is that cool with everyone else?
I haven’t watched this week’s episode yet. So if someone else wants to go at it…
