No. 7 Syracuse Orange (8-0) vs. No. 10 Florida Gators (8-0) GameThread

Syracuse Orange at Florida Gators, Dec 10, 2009 9:00 PM EST

Gators_suck_medium

Kinda looks like Lee Corso.  Just sayin'.

Here we are...two Top Ten teams tanglin' in Tampa.  A few weeks ago this was just another game between two rebuilding programs.  Now it's the best game on tap all week.  Not sure how we got here, just know I don't want to find out what happens if we lose.

Leave your pre-, in- and post-game comments below.  G'Orange!

Love how

“Cuse fans are coming out of the closet this year brimming with confidence. The espn message board looks like we already won the nat’l championship. I think we are good but it is still way too early. Im just excited the team has potential and there are certifiable playmakers, makes it fun to watch.

Let's go!!

What should we be looking for in this game?

by Josh in Syracuse on Dec 10, 2009 8:47 PM EST reply actions

No matter the outcome

it is a game in DECEMBER!

Regardless of what happens we already have had a hugely successful pre-BE season. Will enjoy watching the boys take it to the Donovan gang as much as anyone else here, but not exactly worried about “what happens if we lose”.

Go Orange(men)!

by Orange22 on Dec 10, 2009 9:17 PM EST reply actions

They aren't being as smart on the fast break tonight.

Not sure why Scoop felt the need to pull up from running full speed to take that jumper when he had 2 guys down the court with him.

Transition offense too fast for their own good.

Just want them to keep it close at half, then bury them to start the second like they have done to the other good teams.

A few possessions he looked like he was going to force something just to get on the board. Now that he’s scored, maybe he’ll relax and find his spots.

I go to Michigan

And my first game in the Big Depressed House was Appalachian State. In three years, I’ve seen 17 wins from the winningest program in college football history. Never beat Ohio State, only made a bowl game once, and unless we win the national championship next year, I’ll have watched the worst four years of Michigan football ever.

And our basketball team won 10 games freshman year, by some miracle made the tournament last year, and has decided to suck again this year. So, trust me, you can’t have it that bad. You say G-Mac play. I haven’t seen anything like that.

I’m still a Syracuse fan because I grew up one by virtue of the fact that my dad went there, and they’re pretty much all I have since Michigan sports aren’t worth two shits.

Sure we went 9-0 but we played 8 home games and one neutral game! And Cal wasn’t even that good… and they didn’t have their best player. And one of the UNC stars had the hiccups.

I haven't seen

a Cuse team be this good, maybe ever. Even the team that started out 19-0 didn’t look this good.

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Syracuse fan first and foremost

But root for FSU in fooball when it doesn’t affect Syracuse (i.e. never, except for that game in ’05)

So it’s been a very, very good week for me. :)

I don't think I'm overstating it when I say....

This Syracuse basketball team is greatest team to play basketball ever at any level.

Didn't you listen?

It’s Kansas. Or Christina Aguilera. Or Brian Kelly.

Pretty much all I heard all night.

loss seems like it was 5 years ago. Almost like Jimmy made them lose so they’d humble themselves

hmmm... the man-to-man "experiment...."

and he did seem rather nonchalant about the loss….

Definitely a learning moment. Remember last years team insisted on man-to-man until they began losing in Big East play.

Wow

Browns just beat the Steelers. 1-11 beat the defending champs.

Fun game

Is it just me or did Wes not look that great?

by Josh in Syracuse on Dec 10, 2009 11:20 PM EST reply actions

He didn't look great.

He still had a double double. I’ll take that since he’ll have more good nights than not.

Triche?

He played really well. Didn’t necessarily stuff the stat sheet, but he had a good game – mainly because he was very patient and effective against the press. I was just thinking about it and am I crazy or was he not in the game down the stretch? Is he ok? Or did Jimmy B just go with experience in Scoop?

This team

is better than the National Championship team. Deeper, better defensively, and more mature. Can’t wait until March… and April.

by temolloy on Dec 11, 2009 12:50 AM EST reply actions

It's better in December for sure.

We’ll have to see if it’s better in March. I’d like to see these guys beat UConna and Georgetown (and this year, West Virginia) before declaring them presumptive national champs.

Still, can’t wait until March. Basketball season is exciting. We know we’ll probably make the playoffs in any given year, and usually are good enough we could make a run, but have no guarantees… while there’s the off chance we’ll be very good going into the NCAAs and lose to some 13+ seed. Wereas in football, we’re just awful, no excitement there. And in lax it’s shocking when we don’t win the national title, not when we do.

Man. U sure. Have. A negative. Attitude …

Let’s. All stay positive. And let the positivety will the cuse. All the way to the 2010 title.

Go cuse

by therealmundy on Dec 11, 2009 12:00 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I don't have a negative attitude

So far we look much better than expected. Better than any Syracuse team since I started following the Orange (though that’s only since I moved to the area in 1994, so we might have started better in, say, 1987; I don’t know). I’m really excited about this team. But it’s only December.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
