Albany is no LeMoyne.

Then again, the Syracuse team that stepped on to the court tonight wasn't the same as the team that lost to LeMoyne last week.  This Orange squad took control early and never looked back, dominating in nearly every category possible to win the game 75-43 and secure Jim Boeheim's 800th all-time victory.

None of the Orange went nuts on the statsheet but the points were spread around.  Onuaku led the Orange with 14 points while Wes Johnson added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Rick Jackson, Scoop Jardine and Kris Joseph all scored in double-figures as well.

In his first game, freshman Brandon Triche scored 8 points, added  assists and grabbed 6 rebounds. Not too shabby for a true freshman not named Flynn.

Andy Rautins went scoreless and 0-4 from three-point range and left the game early in the 2nd half with an apparent ankle injury.  No word yet on the severity though it didn't seem too severe.

For the Orange, some validation that the LeMoyne game was just an anomaly. For Jimmy B, just one more piece of validation that he is among the very best to ever coach the game.

Wes

Wes was quiet, but 6 steals, that is a lot of steals. Kris played well in the second half and Riley played strong in limited minutes.

Defense looked great, rebounding looked great, they just need to score more and this could be a really good team.

Typical game...

Rautins rolling on the floor in pain…. check.

20 turnovers…check.

Terrible free throw shooting… check.

But I really liked out defensive intensity and rebounding. When you force 30 turnovers, something is working. We also seem to have interchangeable parts. We will probably have a battle to win half our Big East games… but you can see the raw material.

I also liked AO’s sorta smile on the bench and some sort of leadership going on after the last TV timeout.

All in all, a pretty likeable team. They’ll frustrate us at times… but it goes with the territory.

Go CUSE!

This team is going to be really good defensively.

The jump-shooting’s gonna be spotty and streaky I think, probably for most of the year, which will frustrate as ezcuse said.

But they are “long” and “active” and “other basketball defense cliche” and I think as long as they stay away from man-to-man we can dominate teams defensively and on the glass.

Good game, overall tonight.

BTW

Did you hear that we are long?

Also… Triche is both doing great things with his tempo and needs to improve his tempo. Ahhh…opening night for everyone one.

Again, we are long.

Time

to start working on the next 800 Jimmy. Should come just about the time Paterno steps down.

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

I'm convinced

that the Lemoyne experiment was Boeheim’s way of telling his players, “This is why we play 2-3 zone instead of M2M. So shut up already about how much you think we should be playing M2M defense!”

The 2-3 looked stout last night. Granted, it was only Albany…

And it will work just as well on fans and analysts

For example,

Random SU fan: The zone sucks, we should play M2M
Response: We couldn’t even beat Lemoyne playing M2M
