Daily Links - Hat Tip To LeMoyne

It amounted to "only" a 40-minute moment, but it'll last forever for the Le Moyne Dolphins | Bud Poliquin -
The Dolphins hacked at the beanstalk and brought down the Orange giant, 82-79. And though it was only an exhibition affair that will never mean anything in anybody’s record book, the remarkable triumph will be Le Moyne’s to forever embrace.

Now that baseball season is finally over and football players are dropping like flies, we look towards an intriguing basketball season.

Ultimate Rankings Countdown: Top 50 - Mid-Major Madness
Syracuse comes in at #42. "Inspect the Orange's roster a little more closely, and it's easy to see the reasons for Boeheim's optimism. Throw in that Syracuse is led by a Hall of Fame coach, and it's not farfetched to think that Boeheim's squad could compete for a Big East title in what's being regarded as a down year for the conference."

Another top ten draft pick - Cuse Country
Clearly attempting to emulate the experience of his boy Jonny Flynn in the NBA Draft this spring, Paul Harris was drafted #8 overall in the NBA Development League draft tonight. Paul becomes the first player ever drafted by the expansion Maine Red Claws.

Orange Fizz: Syracuse Orange Sports Blog, Recruiting and Podcasts.
The Fizz never wishes any ill will toward current and former Orange. But there is an undoubted pinch of "told ya so" in the stories of Paul Harris and Eric Devendorf.

Orangecast: Football Edition - Previewing Pittsburgh | Orange Football Blog - syracuse.com
Sportswriter Dave Rahme notes that Syracuse University has the best run defense in the Big East, but adds that the Orange will need every ounce of grit to defeat the well-rested Pitt at home, especially with the loss of five key players.

As it turns out, the Orange's Doug Marrone has been, so far, as much seer as he's been coach | Bud Poliquin -
Though disinclined to muck about in self-indulgence, Doug Marrone might confess that he saw much of this upheaval, much of this turmoil, coming.

What Terrible Football Organization Will You Be Protesting This Weekend? - Washington Redskins - Deadspin
Are you a football fan? Then there's a good chance your favorite team sucks. Sorry. But if you really want people to feel your pain, you'll organize some sort of protest of upper management, because that always makes things better.

Penn State interested in Wasonga - ESPN
Junior running back Allan Wasonga from Parkersburg, W.Va has a verbal offer from Syracuse.

What do Mike Williams and Sarah Palin have in common?  They both quit unexpectedly without any clear reason why.

Giving GRob our program is like when my parents gave my sister a car. Great running well maintained Toyota. High miles but never gave anyone a problem. What did she do? Drove it like bumper cars, let it go to shit. Hit a curb and never changed the tire until it blew out. Then drove on the spare. Never changed the oil (30K or so). Never washed it. Blew out the speakers. Etc. Drove the crap out of the car when the struts went bad.

Thats how my brother got the car and its a lot like how Doug got our program. Broke down. What did he do? Well we ripped out and replaced the suspension, we got under the hood and cleaned out/replaced everything. Rebuilt the top end. Flushed the fluids. New all season tires. Put in new brake pads. Took it in for a tune up and alignment. Washed and detailed the car. Buffed out the scratches. Now its as good as it ever was.

Thats what HCDM is doing right now. When he is done, this program will be as good as it ever was.

TREMENDOUS analogy

"(BARF)" - Donovan McNabb, during his game winning drive against Virginia Tech in 1998

a better analogy would be this:

Your parents gave your sister their old car which was pretty much held together by duct tape and bubble gum, but if you knew how to drive it properly it would typically get you from point “a” to point “b”…although it would occasionally stall or break down when you least expected it to, it would surprise you by driving well under even the worst conditions.

The first thing your sister did, though, was to change the rims and install a CD/MP3 player (although it didn’t have the speakers for it). Since she didn’t know how to drive standard she burned out the clutch and never replaced it with a good one. As one thing would break, she would try to fix it…but then another thing would break, and after she tried fixing that, something else broke so that she never once had a fully functioning, completely running vehicle.

Finally, your parents had enough of your sister’s crappy driving and blatant abuse of the car, so they gave her your Uncle’s which drove well enough that even if she completely ruined the brakes so the car couldn’t stop, it at least had a strong enough engine to get it places.

The old car was then given to your brother who was a mechanic. The first thing he did was take out all the bad parts and is in the process of replacing them with better parts. The car might not be as fast as he likes, it may not be as pretty, but it gets him from point “a” to point “b” again even though he gets passed by a lot of other cars on the road.

he inherited a 6-6 team with a bunch of players who made NFL rosters and a commitment from Ray Rice. He went 1-10 that year.

As a true freshman Rice finished the season as the starting tailback for Rutgers. Rice rushed for 1120 yards and 5 TDs during his freshman campaign, including a 217-yard performance against the University of Connecticut.
