Let The Threepeating Begin

Preseason NCAA Lacrosse polls!  Get your preseason NCAA Lacrosse polls!  Hot off the press!

Inside Lacrosse has premiered their Face-Off Yearbook’s Top 25 and while the two-time defending champions don't find themselves at No. 1 (That's perennial also-ran Duke), they're not far behind at No. 2.

Lost plenty of leadership from last year’s NCAA Championship squad, but everybody said the same thing after ’08. With Cody Jamieson, Stephen Keogh, Joel White and some talented newcomers, ’Cuse has a shot at the three-peat.

Pretty sure they had written that same exact first sentence before last season.

Virginia, North Carolina and runner-up Cornell round out the top five.  And what would a lacrosse Top Ten be without Hopkins, Maryland and Princeton at No. 6, 7 and 8 respectively.

In the first season of Big East Lacrosse, there's a few of SU's new conference-mates among the ranked as well including No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 13 Georgetown and No. 25 Villanova.

There is one group that thinks Syracuse is the No. 1 team in the land...the guys who have to coach against them. Syracuse topped the Coaches preseason poll, receiving 24 first-place votes, followed by Virginia, Duke, North Carolina and Hopkins.

Syracuse is probably going to surprise some.

At least I hope we do. We’re going to have our hands full with Big East play this year. Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Nova are all going to be good, and Virginia is always good.

How much you want to bet Hopkins is overranked this year?

Also

I think in the near future they need to expand the regular season to 16 games with a conference tournament or 20 games without one.

Actually

I think Hop is right about where they should be. A little young, but Petro has guns. They’ll start slow, but will be there on Memorial Day.

And Virginia is going to be Cracker Jacks this year.

I've always found

that Starsia is better at filling vacant spots than Petro.

Someone at the graphics department needs to be fired. The Orange background with the photo of Amidon wearing…. a different Orange is really ugly. Nice to see Josh get some love though. We’re going to need him this year for sure. He’s the only returning player out of our top 6 midfield scorers from last year.

I don’t think SU should be ranked #1. I’d rather prove it on the field. But someone should tell Inside Lacrosse that the definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over again expecting different results. How many years have they ranked Duke number 1? It’s getting comical at this point.

Some observations

1. Agree with the top 4. The ACC’s gonna be a beast this year and Duke, Virginia, and UNC will more than likely be up there all season long
2) Hopkins is actually not overrated? What the hell? I’m surprised IL didn’t rank them #2.
2A) They make up for it by overrating Maryland as usual though
3) Cornell at 5? They lost pretty much their entire starting lineup outside of Parnell. I mean, they could still win the Ivy League but they are not the #5 team in the nation after losing all that talent.
4) That being said, although Princeton lost Bill Tierney as coach, they still have a lot of talent. The Ivy League’s one huge question mark this year
5) The Big East is gonna be fun to watch and I’m really looking forward to seeing the new Syracuse-Notre Dame rivalry develop
6) And Georgetown still sucks

I think Princeton

is probably going to be better than Cornell this year.
