Beaulieu Comes Through For SU
We knew that SU had a bevy of recruits in town for the Rutgers' game this past weekend and that the win would help immensely in proving to many of them that the Orange are on the road back. Looks like one in particular got the memo.
Max Beaulieu, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end from University School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), has given a pledge to Syracuse.
The 17th commitment for the Orange, he was also offered by Arkansas, Nebraska, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tulane and Buffalo.
Beaulieu joins prep teammate athlete/linebacker Brice Hawkes as pledges for Syracuse.
Beaulieu is the highest-profile recruit the Orange have nabbed to date under Doug Marrone's watch. Considered a three-star player from Rivals and Scout, it sounds like SU snatched him up from under Purdue's nose, where he had previously said he was favoring.
According to reports, we can thank Brice Hawkes for leading Max in our direction:
The 6'3", 240 lb defensive lineman committed after visiting the school with teammate and fellow Orange commit, Brice Hawkes. Beaulieu said that he is excited for "a chance to play in a great conference for a coaching staff that is committed to getting back to the top in the conference."
The Fizz notes something specifically gratifying about the Orange nabbing Beaulieu...Greg Schiano was all over him.
The best part? Ex-Miami assistant Greg Schiano actively recruits South Florida as hard as anyone in the Big East - and Monster Max attended Rutgers football camp over the summer.
One Saturday. Two wins.
See that? Things are already changing...

I like that some of the teams on that list are clearly better than Cuse right now and he chose us. It’s good to see that the list of competing schools are no longer Miami (OH), Central Michigan or Eastern Tennessee State.

This weekend
There were at least 15 to 20 recruits on the sideline before the game. Marrone made a ballsy move in bringing so many to the rutgers game because I figure a lot of these players had offers from both schools. If SU had lost it could have been very damaging. I love seeing us get a few big recruits and this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Those who continue to question Doug Marrone….I find your lack of faith disturbing.

seers peering into a crystal ball?
nobody on this site is gonna know for sure, until say a couple of years from now, after the inital grace period. i do have faith the staff here now , despite a lack of the allmighty stars" on the players ranking, is a better judge of character and talent then grob and his merry men.he also appears to have figured out its a real plus to try and recruit at l east 4-5 primo players a year from fla. living in aluchea county/gainesville right now, plus most of last year, cottage on the beach in fort myers beach, they got more talent in say lee county/Fort myers.. or gainesville/ocala.. aluchea county, then say mass or ct, has in the whole state. having said that, i know that some of the best players su has every recruited, like floyd little /mass and dwight freeny/ct, come from new england.its also a upper that the quote" last refuge of a tryant"oops.. i mean of a team with mass injuries and defections, is usally some sort of a opton attack, which he used very sucessfully vs rutgers! but that is real good, us dving back down in to florida again..

Here’s a local article about it. It looks like there are some connections between the coaching staffs at Syracuse and the school… perhaps good for the future? The school puts several players into Division I every year.

One of the reasons it appears Syracuse is having such success recruiting players at University School is running backs coach Stan Drayton. Drayton was Harriott’s coach at Villanova. Also helping in South Florida is assistant head coach Bob Casullo, whose son Rocco, is an assistant coach at St. Thomas Aquinas.
“You have to be able to cultivate relationships and our guys did that,” Harriott said. “Max was really able to speak with coach Drayton and I was able to give him my insight as well.”
