Best Week in Syracuse Athletics?
I'm not saying this is it. Really, I'm not. But it's on the list, right?
#25 Rutgers (Football improves to 4-7, first conference win for HCDM)
#12 Cal (The upset many sportscasters saw coming, Dicky V's a little too excited)
#4 UNC (The shot heard 'round the world, Dicky V's heart explodes from the excitement and the viagra)
And the irony of it all? Just a few days ago we were discussing how bad the same week could be here and now I am able to post this article and while some people may think I'm overreacting, they can at least see where I'm coming from. There are other events, national championships, cinderella tournament runs (BE and NCAA), etc. but in 2 sports at once, major milestones? I think this is unique.
Best week in SU athletics and where this ranks. Discuss.

Top 25?
To be one of the best weeks ever, a championship of some kind needs to be involved.
But this is up there around the best weeks in a long time. Also, what makes it even better is the fact that the LeMoyne loss is nullified in a way, making that horrible week seem less horrible.

I agree about the championship needing to be there.
Or at least something of significance. More important than a few really exciting regular season wins.
However, I will say that this week feels better than it would if these events occurred in the mid-nineties. Context! We’ve suffered through years of depressing football, and so much up and down with the basketball team (seems like more down than up, lately). So two huge wins, a top 10 ranking, and a surprise upset by the football team feels liberating, as crazy as that word sounds there.

Not sure how I overlooked that.
My ESPN 360 feed must have ended before the team cut down the nets.

my heart belongs to basketball much more than football
So off the top of my head, I’d put the ‘06 Big East tourney run, last year’s BET run (6OTs, natch), and the ‘03 title ahead of it. And that’s just recent basketball success. I’d put last May’s lacrosse comeback against Cornell (plus the semifinal shellacking) ahead of it as well.
As awesome as the football win + the annihilation of UNC & Cal was, it was still just a basketball tourney in November and a win to get the football team to 4-7.
That’s why I said it doesn’t rank. Don’t get me wrong, it was a fantastic week. But I think people tend to overreact to events right when they happen.

Wait...
I think you have to look at this from a multi-sport perspective.
When have multiple sports contributed to a better week for Syracuse???

That is a great question
and kind of what I was getting at. Although, BE tourney runs do mean a lot to me bc they are over several days. I didn’t mean any one game but a series of them in the course of a week, and the multi-sport aspect is really cool.
