Gadget game
Cuse is pulling out all the stops this week. It’s senior day against Rutgers. Open up the ol playbook. That kickoff return, though it only got to the 29, is a portent of things to come.

Nassib on the option
Looks like Nassib just ran the option! First down!
Is anyone else watching? ESPN360 folks

I think so
I think he went in on 1st down…but then Nassib ran a bunch of plays in a row immediately after.

This is fun to watch! 7-0

Rob Long never did kick offs until we completely ran out of kickers because he is an inconsistent place kicker and always has been.

Cop out
That feels like a cop out – our line isn’t THAT porous and our players aren’t so slow that they can’t stop the big returns that keep happening. It seems like the discipline that we’ve seen on defense isn’t translating to special teams.
by DMF on Nov 21, 2009 5:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
most teams have guys who only play special teams. We have our regulars doing it. Since they are practicing O and D, they dont spend practice working on special teams like they would with a full roster of good players.

I know it's been said
but thanks again to ForthCountry for the info to get on 360. Got home in time to see the fourth quarter, and it fills me with glee. God I hate Rutgers.

Classy move running on fourth
I of course would have liked another FG. After all, you need
to win big to help your BCS standings :)

Savage looked like Brett Favre on Strahan's record-breaking sack
He just…went down…almost out of respect. And also fear.

Just like the old days
We might not be the best team, but at least we didn’t lose to Rutgers
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Doug Hogue
gets the bone. he has to. School record in TFL! Think of the guys we have had on our D. Wow.

Wow.
I just saw the score and started laughing my ass off. I hope my friend’s fiancee (a BIG Rutgers fan) won’t start hating me now (I don’t think I told him I root for Syracuse). But I will get to laugh at all my Rutgers fan coworkers (who know I love Syracuse and mock me for it).

don’t worry, if she’s a Rutgers fan it will take her a few days to do the math…

as a Philly resident, I have tons of anti-new jersey lines….but, I refrained for the betterment of the team. So, I like to think that I did my part…
Although, what’s the difference between Jersey Girls and trash? Trash gets picked up.
New Jersey, the only state where it’s free to get in, but they charge you $4 to leave!

I was in Philly in August, made a wrong turn, had to get on the bridge to NJ, and that was pretty f’ed up how you have to do that.
$4 screwup, not to mention having to drive through Camden where I believe I saw a drug bust in progress. It was $4 I happily paid, too.
And the trash joke is a classic.

moving from Syracuse to Philadelphia, the concept of going to another state so quickly and easily was very foreign… let’s face it, when you’re in Syracuse, it’s quicker to go to Canada than just about any other state. It’s not as though you miss a turn a suddenly wind up in Vermont!
New Jersey sucks, I’m sorry that you made a wrong turn (probably around 8th street I’m guessing) and wound up on the bad side of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Although, Camden does have a great aquarium and arena for concerts…hopefully your next trip to the area will have a much better story involving the Delaware River…..

With the heart of our defense missing
(A. Jones and D. Smith) this was simply an amazing performance by a D that has been playing really well lately. The offense finally caught up with them, and Marrone/Spense finally let their pairs drop and called a game like there was nothing to lose. Which, there really wasn’t.

What a great weekend....
for SU sports. Basketball looks great and football beats the STD capital of the world in Rutgers. I’m smiling about football and basketball together for the first time in months

I will say it...
the best week of Syracuse Football/Basketball ever.
We have had good moments in each, but never together on consecutive days like this.
How often do you have meaningful basketball games in November? Rare. How often do you even have them during bowl season? Seldom. Beating ranked teams on consecutive nights on national TV, followed up by a great, unexpected football win. Awesome.
by ezcuse on Nov 21, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
not just a great, unexpected win…. a great, unexpected win against a really cocky Rutgers team, that just a few months ago, was fully expecting an National Championship and an invite to the Big 10.
And although their win against USF was impressive, I think it’s safe to say that winning against inferior teams for 5 weeks doesn’t necessarily make you a better team.

Admit it
that Rutgirls kicker was faking it. She didn’t hurt her leg at all. Just an acting job.
by ezcuse on Nov 21, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
no doubt. they should have assessed a 5-yd penalty for delay of game. Although, if this who place kicking thing doesn’t work out for him, that pirouette and the acting ability may land him a career in ballet….

I think he legitimately hurt himself...
in the process of flopping like a soccer player. Was it as bad as he made it seem? Probably not. But he did seem to tweak an ankle there a little bit. Though, no sympathy here…it was of his own making.

Kudos to Coaches Marrone, Shafer, and Spence
Tremendous thanks to the head man and coordinators for coaching absolutely balls-out in a game this team had to have. Their reward for flat-out dominating Rutgers (total yards – SU 423, RU 138) is turning open the faucet on the New Jersey recruiting pipeline.
By the way, I imagine that when Marrone and Dan Conley were talking to the team about what is what like playing Rutgers when they played at Syracuse, the message was something disturbingly close to, “We are Syracuse. We don’t effing lose to effing Rutgers.”

Northwestern Win
Looks even better now than it did when we won that game. NW is a quality team right now, who’d be threatening to break into the rankings if we hadn’t beaten them early in the season.
