For the last 22 years

I think a lot of Cuse fans have hated him. But hearts and minds are a-changin.

He's just himself

he’s not trying to be a character (Vitale, Raftery). Refreshing.

At least

The NCAA video game has an option of using a CBS crew. Too bad CBS basically has a west coast bias.

I don't think he blows

But he does have a schtick much like Vitale does. It’s just that Raf’s schtick is nowhere near as annoying as Vitale’s.

Honest Question

If Knight wasn’t blowing verbal kisses to SU for the last 24 hours would people think he’s so good? He sucks the life out of a game with a monotone delivery. He’s the anti-gus johnson

by Sadler1 on Nov 20, 2009 7:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I HATE Raftery

I find him almost as annoying as Vitale. “In the man-ta-man” “with the kiss” – his shtick is horrible. I hate listening to his voice. I wish that they would both retire.

This is mean, but remember when Vitale missed some action last year because he had voice box surgery or something? That wasn’t so bad…

by DMF on Nov 20, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I like Raf

but I can understand if someone else thinks he’s a lot like Vitale in that they’re caricatures of themselves in terms of announcing style.

by MrPlow99 on Nov 20, 2009 8:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It's possible.

It depends on HOW we win. If we win with a certain amount of flair we should be.

by adselver15 on Nov 20, 2009 8:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Personally

I just think it’s too much movement for a team that’s ranked 24th right now. I could see them be 12th or 13th, but not to jump 15 other teams.

so i’ve never heard of allagash confluence ale or great divide fresh hop. where are they from?

by MrPlow99 on Nov 20, 2009 8:27 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Allagash = Portland, ME
Great Divide = Denver, CO

by TheRenegadePumpkin on Nov 20, 2009 8:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

interesting

The Wegmans in the Rochester area have all started up “beers of the world” sections, but I don’t recall seeing either of those there. I take it the Fresh Hop is an IPA. What style is the Confluence?

by MrPlow99 on Nov 20, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Fresh Hop is actually a regular Pale Ale, whereas similar style “wet hop” ales (Harpoon 100 Barrel Glacier Harvest, Sierra Nevada Harvest Estate) are IPA’s. Confluence is a straight up ALE. Citrusy, light-medium body, thick cream.

Just racked the Southern Tier (Lakewood, NY) Mokah… a chocolately coffee Imperial Stout. Think of a chilled cafe mocha from Starbucks, only with 72x more flavor. Ridic. Bitches cream themselves over it. 11.0 ABV% is not bad for a stout, either.

by TheRenegadePumpkin on Nov 20, 2009 8:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I love the Southern Tier IPA

it’s one of my favorite IPAs. I also like their Porter. So I’d think they’d do a good job with their imperial stout, too. But I can’t do coffee stouts (got sick off kahlua & cream too often as a youngster & it’s ruined me for anything coffee+alcohol).

by MrPlow99 on Nov 20, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Great points +2

I much prefer their Hoppe and the other one (forget it’s name right now), and the combination of the two that make the Gemini, needed a change of flavor.

AO is the all-time SU Field Goal Leader with ~65% FG%. Yet, we will all remember him for his woeful, historic FT shooting.

GP2 is the all-time SU completion % leader with ~65% Compl/Att. Yet, we will all remember him for his woeful, historic INT margin.

Married to a girl from NC. All of her family’s UNC fans. Don’t root for them, but I’m happy to see them win (so long as it doesn’t hurt Syracuse). Hate Duke. Hate hate hate. I’m not sure that I would’ve been allowed by her parents to marry her if I had been a Duke fan.

Haha

Was born and raised in SU, now living in Raleigh-Durham, Only dark blue and Orange for me. Can’t stand those light blue Tar Heels!

same

UNC is my least favorite too- but that’s because I like Kansas (that bastard roy williams, who the hell leaves KU?).

lets start the ranking predictions

I say we’ll be 12 (not what we should be, but what we will be on Monday)

by 03 Grad on Nov 20, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Im still

thinking 12th. I just can’t see them jumping a ton

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

by PoetryInMoten on Nov 20, 2009 9:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i say we make jump to 10

It's sad

But I was wishing Andy would’ve thrown a couple eh’s and a few poser comments in the interview

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

11, 7, 7, 7, now THAT is a statline

by Sadler1 on Nov 20, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

i was about to post the same thing

it’s cool that they gave him the player of the game over johnson.

7 assists and 7 steals (and 7 rebounds, for a guard). how awesome is that?

Shut it down!!!!

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

"Rautins is stroking it right now"

Great quote. What a game… almost a quadruple double.

by ezcuse on Nov 20, 2009 9:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This even feels better

Than Kansas last year. We squeaked by them. We just dominated. DOMINATED. UNC. And Cal. And we probably would’ve dominated Ohio State if we’d played them.

This is a good time to mention

That i’m like 75% sure I sat next to Kris Joseph at the movies last friday. I willingly gave up my right arm rest to make him more comfortable. In some small way I contributed to this victory. You’re welcome everyone.

you guys

we just pummeled UNC. UNC!

soak it all in, everyone. this is damn impressive. are we going to be good this year? yes, yes we are.

and I must say

that I got the poll question right, the one that asked if we’d win both games of this tourney, or just 1, or none.

now i can only hope that i didn’t get the football poll question right (i said we’d lose by more than 20)

You know what's interesting?

Even though the Big East is undefeated so far, the other Big East teams (Nova, Gtown, UConn in particular) are struggling to beat second tier mid-majors. We’re walking all over the big shots.

by adselver15 on Nov 20, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

good point

still, a win is a win. and the big east hasn’t lost a game yet. how sweet is that?

by MrPlow99 on Nov 20, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You can give me credit for this win, btw

When UNC went on the late 1st half run to go up 37-35, I decided to change things up by watching something else on the TV and watching the game on ESPN360. Then the huge run started.

You’re welcome everyone!

by wildcatlh on Nov 20, 2009 9:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

as UNC gets better, this win is going to look awesome on our resume.

How good

would Iowa State have been this year with Brackens and Johnson down low?

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Only 4 comments

on the UNC game thread? I was gonna talk some trash but now I just feel bad for them.

by ryanwk628 on Nov 20, 2009 9:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

that's...

wow…. for UNC? That’s pathetic, no joke.

by bwelch37 on Nov 20, 2009 9:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Is UNC a football school now?

Because usually if only four people care about basketball at Carolina that’s what it would look like……

YES

Beautiful game. I love this team. Let’s enjoy it. It will keep us warm through the Rutgers game tomorrow.

I’m on a bus with 50 SU Students heading back to the Cuse from MSG. My god that was so worth the 5 hour trip

The game was in the State of New York

ergo, it’s typical Syracuse scheduling and this game means nothing!

As will the Tampa game

I mean it is in a BE stadium, that’s a home game too, right?

Go Orange(men)!

Big question:

Better team, this year with Flynn, or last year with Wes?

My vote, last year with Wes, better backcourt is usually the better tourney team.

Go Orange(men)!

by SUmonkey on Nov 20, 2009 9:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would go this year with Flynn.

The reason? Defense. All these long arms and big bodies are making this zone work. Add a player like Flynn to that and damn. I’ll take the combo of Triche and Jardine to replace Devo and it’s pretty clear Wes is replacing Harris just fine.

by NOLACuse on Nov 20, 2009 9:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Wes = Warrick

Harris couldn’t shine Wes’ shoes.

Yeah, the D is really improved, but I will argue that with Wes, last year’s team would of had a much better D than they did.

Go Orange(men)!

i'm not interested in comparisons really

i’m just interested in enjoying this team. because damn, they are good, and they are exciting. now i wish i was going to more than 4 of their games this year.

Too bad only game I plan on going to this year is Columbia next Friday.

I’m too poor of a man to afford “premium” BE tickets at $34

by AlvinTostig on Nov 20, 2009 10:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it's good to know people

someone i work with has really good season tickets, so i’m getting his seats for those games. $27 for non-conf tickets, and $49 for big east games.

I have seen AO smile more in November 2009 than he has in all prior seasons put together.

Happy birthday to me

What a great ending to my birthday… Top 10 team right now but we’ll have to see how they do in late jan when they usually struggle and lose 3 out of 5… But I’m proud of my orange… GO SU!!!!

Also

Anyone one else see boeheim pump his fist after shaking hands with Williams? Haven’t seen that since 2003 after national championship… Must be really happy with his team

Rautins MVP Trophy

The tourney went all out. Nothing like an award you can fit in your wallet….

by ezcuse on Nov 20, 2009 11:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wes actually got the MVP trophy. Rautins was all tournament team.
