Baffled...

As a kid born and raised in Syracuse, I attended the University of Tennessee for the Fall ‘08 semester. I even blogged about it down there when I got a chance to check out Tennessee’s Facilities. Having said that, his commitment to the Vols baffle me. When I was down there, the football team was losingto Wyoming and firing Phil Fulmer, while the basketball team was coming off of a season where they made it to the sweet 16 and had the first #1 ranking in school history. Guess what? Still a football school. Their fans want the bball team to win, but if they don’t they really don’t care all that much (aside from the students).

Even from a media standpoint, Harris passing up the Orange lasted longer in the Syracuse headlines than down in the Tennessee media… The story of his commitment lasted as a headline on www.govolsxtra.com for about 3 hours before it was replaced by headlines of Lane Kiffin and the barnbuster against Vanderbilt this week.

I loved watching Tennessee Football, and the weather is nice down there. But if I am a blue chip recruit, there is no angle I could look at it where a school like Tennessee would make sense over a school like Syracuse, or Louisville, or even Kentucky for that matter.

SEC schools that care about basketball: Kentucky, Vanderbilt.

Maybe he just wanted to stay away from the Big East??

if he is as good as advertised, then he should help the Vols become the 3rd best basketball team in Tennessee.

true

their post about him going to UT had 13 posts. We had 108 during his decision. But if he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t want him here.

He made a lot of enemies. I think ESPN turned down the sound on the crowd, because it didn’t sound that loud live. Some people really let him have it.

Watch the interview from the Fizz...

I thought the interview from the Orange Fizz was interesting… he says that one of the reasons he went to Tennessee was to win a national championship and be apart of a big recruiting class… UT’s class is ranked in the top 15 now that he has signed on but Syracuse was/is top 5 right now. All the power to him to go to a school where he feels more comfortable and everything, but I’m not so sure that I’m buying the fact that he wanted to win a national championship and be apart of a big recruiting class otherwise he would have commited to Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville etc…

To clarify about UT's recruiting class

I could be wrong, but I believe UT was ranked somewhere in the high 20s or 30 range for recruiting classes before signing Harris…
