The Mike Williams Timeline

2006 - All Mike Williams did as a freshman was lead the team with 461 receiving yards becoming the first freshman to lead the team in receiving since Scott Schwedes ('83).  Williams did this while only starting three games all year.

September 24th, 2007 - Williams hauls in 5 catches for 83 yards and a TD as Syracuse shocks then-ranked Louisville on the road.

October 2007 - Williams is invited to try out for the SU men's basketball team and he ends up making a contribution on the floor briefly.

October 22nd. 2007 - Willams and Taj Smith are the first Syracuse receiving duo in school history to both get over 100-yards in one game.

December 2007 - Williams is named Syracuse Offensive MVP for the season.  He is named to the All-Big East Second Team, caught a TD in nine consecutive games, tied the SU record of 60 receptions in a season and led the Orange in receptions and receiving yards. His 837 yards is the most by an SU sophomore and is the eighth best total in SU history.

January 2008 - Williams' brief interlude with the Syracuse basketball team ends so he can focus on football.

June 2008 - Williams is suspended from Syracuse University for academic violations.  According to reports, he was caught "cheating multiple times in class."

Summer 2008 - Williams eschewed a chance to go to community college in the Syracuse area, instead attending a school farther away in order to get things in order quietly.

January, 2009 - Mike Williams re-enrolls at Syracuse with the intention to play football for the Orange in 2009.  He tells reporters, "I messed up and got suspended. It was nothing against the school. That's me. I messed up. I felt like I've got to come back, prove to people I can still do it."

July 2009 - Williams talks candidly about the situation, saying "I felt like I messed up for all of [his hometown] Buffalo.  I felt like it was all on me. My mom always said, "Get us out of here, get everybody out of here.' What she means is I can put Buffalo on the map. I felt I let her down, let Buffalo down."

September 5th, 2009 - In his fisrt game back Williams picks up where he left off, catching 7 balls for 94 yards and a TD.

September 12th, 2009 - Williams' consecutive game TD streak ends at ten against Penn State as he's held to 54 yards on 5 catches.

September 19th, 2009 - Williams amasses a career-high 11 catches for 209 yards and 2 TDs.  He is named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week.

October 3rd, 2009 - Williams' tops his career-best in receptions with 13 against South Florida.  He gains 186 yards and two more TDs.  He is named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.

October 7th, 2009 - Mike Williams tells Donnie Webb that he will be back for his senior season."I’m really looking forward to coming back. I’m not even going through that process right now of thinking about leaving or nothing."

October 22nd, 2009 - After rumors run rampant during the week, Doug Marrone announces that Williams has been suspended from the team for that weekend's Akron game.  He is reinstated the next day.  When asked to explain the reason, Williams refuses.  Academic issues are loudly rumored.  Over the weekend he posted a Facebook status that reads ""I HATE COLLEGE I CANT SEE ME DOING THIS FOR LONG.HINT HINT.-0 LMAO"  He quickly changes his status, saying that it was a joke and he will be staying.

October 26th, 2009 - Williams named one of the ten semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top receiver.

November 2nd, 2009 - Mike Williams walks into Doug Marrone's office and promptly quits the SU football team.  Reason still TBD. He leaves the program sixth in the nation and first in the Big East in receiving yards per game (118.7), while his 7.5 receptions per game are ninth in the nation.  He mad made a reception in 26 consecutive games, fourth-best in Syracuse history.

He's a fool.

What could he possibly gain from this? I’ll be waiting impatiently for more details to come out.

I'm sorry to hear this.

He looked like a real bright spot in the Syracuse offense. I’m sorry you lost him; while I never want SU to beat Rutgers, I’m dying for you guys to come back as a Big East & national power against everyone else.
