college pass ing game
this is difficult for me to concede . sorta like chief joseph: i will fight no more for ever! howsomever, i will admit, i was amazed, totally, at not only the utah pass attack, but even the longhorn aerial attack i saw last nite. with utah, they were playing pretty good sec defense, and a overall pretty good team, that had been ranked numero uno for quite a while. they did have that samoan power back run in for a td. but the utah qb himself, runs very seldom after being injured couple of years ago. seemed like a very unbalanced offense to me, but they really did a job on the bama defense. and not only is the SEC the best conference, around, they have a great reputation for quick defensive lineman ala tim green and freeney. so being a run option kind of guy, was very impressed by the quick passes of utah. and same thing with UT win last nite, the mcoy kid did run into end zone for td, and has some scramble ability, but in general, it was like 400+yards in air, and like 80 on ground. not well balanced, but they won. and the last drive using the sidelines, for time constraits was state of the art. so ... even tho i am a opton run first guy, gotta admit.. i think this somewhat horizontal short pass stuff was what grob was striving for, and just never achieved. i could have swore that osu, with a far more balanced attack, was gonna win. seems like now a days, the really sophisticated pass attacks with primo personal, such as usc, ut, and utah, are quite difficult for many teams to stop, ala the high scores seen in the big 12

could it be
the complete and utter lack of a defense in the big 12 ohio st got crushed by usc who has a decent defense yet texas almost losses to the same team who gets crushed every year by the sec???? come on dude utah is better than expected big 12 defenses are suspect at best…. which is also why the texas offense could not run the ball last night against a porace script ohio defense look at the miss st vs texas tech game same thing oh and btw florida enialates ou and splits the national title with utah or usc

su defense linemen
i did not bother to clarify that issue, since probably the most famous lineman to come out of the big east ,much less su , were freeney and tim green. the only other one comes to mind was the guy bruce smith , played at vt and then the bills. i just wanted to bring up the point that the SEC actually has talent on defense line now a days, that approaches freeney and tim green.

u t pass game?
myhats off to it, but i still gotta say.. i think something is wrong with a team that has to pass like 59 times in a game. usc .. has a great pass attack always, but in less they are in deep trouble, chooses to run over people with their 6 all hs all american tailbacks most of the time, alternating with some pass stuff. however, with ut, the completation rate was 41/59, and the last td drive was state of the art , using the sidelines and clock. so a win is win, however u get it.

these new spred offenses
do not only mean option running. A lot of them are empty backfield passing sets like TTU runs. Its really an umbrella term for a system that stretches the field from side line to sideline to force one on one situations.
WVU uses it to isolate player then use their speed on the outside. TTU uses it to keep their top WRs from getting doubled because when the field is “spread” like that, help cant get there in time.
When you have a team with speed on D and can make tackles one on one in space, the advantage is neutralized. Thats why SU started its fastest players against WVU and held them for most of the game.
In bowl games, teams have more time to prepare and the D usually catches up. Thats why there are generally lower scores.
In the texas game, a lot of pass plays out of that set, similar to what OU runs, are passes that only go forward 1 or 2 yards… the rest is RAC (run after catch). Still, because they are stretching the field side line to side line by how they line up… its a spread as opposed to the old school power I formations
