Axeman weighs in on the Restore 44 Issue
I'm fine with the "star RB wears it on Senior Day" idea. At the very least, it puts the jersey back on the field and it ensures that a decent-enough player is wearing the jersey.

sounds like a cop-out to me..
daryl gross’s lone connection to syracuse university is his paycheck.
he doesn’t bleed orange. he didn’t grow up orange. syracuse is his employer.
what does he care if our traditions WE BUILT before he got here get trashed (you know, like the football team for the last 4 years).
i couldn’t imagine a WORST person to be in charge of the future of 44. he is so disconnected from the fan base its not even funny. run that weasel out of town before he ruins something else great!!! [u know.. like the ernie davis statue..]

I still think it should be on the field.
But given that it’s not, the next step is how the university works to keep this tradition of 44 alive. We need much more than a jersey in the rafters to actually pass this history down to generations of Syracuse fans. Otherwise it will fade even faster than a series of poor-performing athletes on the field wearing the jersey.

it's the responsibility
of the fans to keep the tradition of 44 alive, not the University’s.
The University does not “create” traditions, the fans do.

Actually, in this case, the team created the tradition.
And the University is trying to take control of it.
