Well since Gottlieb said it, I guess we should take away Pitt’s top ranking and disband the Big East because Steven A Smith’s brother from another mother said so. And people wonder why I limit my ESPN intake to ESPN News.

2 losses though?
Where in the world did we come up with the philosophy that we must put a team that is undefeated ahead of a one-loss team? Frankly, that is a bit hypocritical.
But how does Doug feel about ranking undefeated teams behind 2 loss teams ?
I can’t read the whole article, and I can understand an argument that Pitt hasn’t actually beaten that many teams yet (they’ve traveled a bit, and they’ve beaten some respectable OOC opponents, and then destroyed Geogetown at Georgetown). But that’s the problem with rankings. Half the guys that vote don’t actually watch many games. They read the recaps, look at box scores, and vote with the majority. And the majority says Pitt was in the rightful spot to move up to #1.
Personally, I think his argument (or the few sentences of it that I read) is much stronger in football where rankings actually mean something. But who gives a fuck now for basketball? Pitt will be tested and if they win, they stay on top. If they lose knock ’em down like you did to UNC. It will all shake out just fine in the end.
