I know that Giants offensive coordinator and Buddy Ryan punching bag Kevin Gilbride's name came up early in the head coach rumblings for Syracuse, but I just assumed it was a passing thing.  I figured as soon as they figured out he was, you know, Kevin Gilbride, they'd move on.

Apparently not.

Syracuse recently reached out to speak with Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride about becoming its head coach. Gilbride declined to discuss it, saying he was focusing on Sunday’s game against Philadelphia, but a source close to the school did. Gilbride is on the school’s list of coaching candidates, though it’s uncertain how high he is on the list.

So help me God if the interview DIDN'T go like this:

Gross: So, Kevin, when's the last time you coached and recruited in college football?

Gilbride: 1984.

Gross:  Okay.  And I see here the Giants offense is among the best in the league.

Gilbride:  Sure is!

Gross:  Doesn't that have more to do with the fact that Eli Manning is in his prime and you have a phalanx of quality running backs at your disposal, all running on all cylinders?

Gilbride: Well...

Gross:  Thank you, I'm done here.  Get out.

Funny sidenote.  I heard this while in the car listening to ESPN Radio.  It was one of those quick sports news recaps and the guy who said Gilbride was up for the job also said that he was in the running along with East Carolina's Skip Holtz and Buffalo's Kendall Gill.

Gross wasn't kidding, he really IS interviewing everyone.
