The Greatest Gregism Tournament Begins!

You didn't think we were going to let Gregisms go quietly into the night, did you?  Greg might be gone but his lasting legacy will never, ever be forgotten.  Mostly because we still can't believe some of the retarded things that came out of his mouth.

I've done my best to sift through "the archives" and fine the very best Gregisms from the last four years.  I've broken out what I feel are the 32 greatest ones of all.  And now, I put it in your hands.  Every day or so, we'll pit two Gregisms against each other until we determine the Greatest Gregism Of All Time.  That result will be etched in stone for future Syracuse head coaches to see and fear becoming themselves.

The first of 16 first-round match-ups begins now.  Vote well and vote wisely.  Voting for each match-up will be open for two days. This might just be the most important thing you do today.

Our first entrant comes from October 31st, 2008:

"Really, the second half of South Florida was really our first half of bad football probably of the year."

By the time Greg said that, Syracuse was 2-6 and had already lost 30-10 to Northwestern, 42-28 to Akron, 55-13 to Penn State, 34-24 to Pittsburgh, 17-6 to West Virginia and 45-13 to South Florida.  SURELY, there was at least one other bad quarter of play nestled in there somewhere...yeah?

The challenger comes from November 12th, 2008:

"He's made a step in real growth."

Greg is referring to UConn RB Donald Brown, who was #1 in the nation in the coveted RGI (Real Growth Index).

ah, it's brutal

“…the second half…” comment is just destroying “real growth” out there. Unless “real growth” really plays its best half of voting on the second day of voting, then it will be the first Greggism to lose. I see a lot of Want-To in that 16% of votes, and I saw some flash in Greggers’ eyes when he said it back in November. So I really do think it can make this comeback!

However, Mitch Browning thinks it’s time to move on to the next voting already because “real growth” is done.

The Winner

If “I don’t know” doesn’t win this thing, the contest is rigged. It’s a 2008-09 North Carolina Hoops one seed.

Bracket?

Is there a bracket anywhere? If so I hope Want-To and I Don’t Know are on opposite sides.

I don't want to

put all my cards on the table. I’ll release each first-rounder and then I’ll put together a bracket once the remaining 16 Gregisms in the 2nd round are set.

God that’s overly-complicated.
