Ed Orgeron - Back to Cuse?

Hear on numerous blogs and from Donnie Webb that Marrone may bring Ed Orgeron, the former recruiting director at USC as well as ex-head coach at Ole Miss, along as his Defensive coordinator. I love the idea and would make me so much more comfortable with the fact Marrone has very little recruiting experience and no head coaching experience. If this is true I'm really looking forward to this season. Bring on the offseason!

Just noticed

that Orgeron is the D-line coach for the Saints right now. How convenient. I’d say that he was probably part of whatever ideas Gross and Marrone had kicked around the whole time, considering Gross is probably familiar with Ed from their USC days. A big get if it happens for this new staff.

orgeron

that did not translate to having winning seasons at ol e miss.. and u would have to be be pretty inept, not to be able to sucessfully recruit southern ca.. while at usc. of course, lately, ucla has not done such a great job in LA.. b ut i assume most of the top players in the pac 10 come from LA and san diego..

Actually...

You don’t need the ‘of the top’ qualifier. Most of the players in the Pac 10 (and the MWC and WAC, for that matter) come from LA and San Diego, period. If I-A schools were distributed equally by population, California would have something like 16 (rather than seven; the Pac-10 schools plus Fresno State, San Jose State, and San Diego State); of course, New York would have rather more than 3.

What did translate into

was a Top 15 recruiting class however. When you are competing with the good SEC schools, that is no easy task. And their defense was always good. Which is his specialty anyway. The offense, and its schemes if I’m not mistaken, was the real problem at Ole Miss.

SEC defenses

what was actually orgeron’s problem was the famous SEC defenses, which usually feature on say teams like bama, LSU.the gators, etc, multiple editions of our own arthur jones.. coming at u from the interior d line.. big and macht schnell /vite fast.. if u look at usc’s rather pathetic record vs say ory-gun and osu beavers in say the past 5 years.. usc would be laughing stock in the SEC.. not a way in the world would they even think about going undefeated and ranked number one. thankefully for them, they get to play teams like washington state, washington, standford..0OPS- another loss for the men of troy recently. so that was orgerons problem, he was not used to, being from usc, the take no prisoners wild and crazy SEC very athletic defenses in general, especially the d line talent inthe SEC
